Snow Tires

Yes, I know it's still summer, but I'm already thinking about snow tires. Tirerack recommends using a 185/70-14" snow tire. They also list a 15". The diameter of the tire is about the same as the 16". I looked elsewhere, and that seems to be the common recommendation. Even though the prices are lower, they recommend smaller, narrower snow tires. I'll probably get the Sport wheels, as I've used them on several vehicles.

I ran 14s on my 2010 and loved them. They are going on my '15 and I expect the same thing. I have steelies that they live on

On snow thinner tires equals better traction. My experience is that our wheels are small to begin with that you dont need to downgrade size.

I had 17x7 wheels on my old 2011 Fit, running Continental ExtremeContact DWSs and there were great in the snow.

I guess it depends if you want a dedicated snow tire, if your area does not plow snow quickly, or an All-Season tire for areas that plow the same night.

I'm in NH, we get a good chunk of snow. The all seasons weren't enough.

Winter tires it is. Tire Rack is pretty good with their recommendations.

My approach to winter tires was to move to Florida before owning a car again.

I'm in the same boat of needing dedicated winter wheels+tires here in MN. Please let us know if you go with 14s or 15s and the brand. This is my first time having a vehicle that I need to buy snow tires for so I'm a bit skiddish (previous vehicles already had winter wheel set when I purchased). I've heard of Blizzaks but a friend of mine has told me the Nokian (?) is the way to go. Love to hear opinions

Nokian H(something) are the best rated winter tire. Firestone winter forces are quite lovely, I like them better than blizzaks.

There are regular and performance winter tires. I had a set of performance Blizzaks on my old RX7 R3 and they were phenomenal in NJ winter snow, including a really heavy storm one particular day. There were cars stuck all over the place and I was able to get through where others couldn't, with RWD no less.

I would recommend Blizzaks to anyone.

I've read good reports on the Michelin X-Ice, and they're up to X-Ice 3 now. We've used them for years, so I'll stick with them. I don't think tirerack has Nokians in the Fit size.
