Switches Wanted

I'd like to put some switches in those blanks next to the traction control switch. I thought I could do what I've done with other cars and drill through the blank to mount the switch. The backs of those blank plugs are too complex to be able to drill through safely, so I'll have to get switches that are a perfect fit - for my Fit.

Looking through the owner's manual, I didn't see any switches in those locations, so ordering from a dealer probably isn't an option.

Have any of you found good switches? If I find any, I'll let you know.

So far I've wired in an XM radio, GPS, and dashcam. Next, I want to wire a few 12v outlets and colored LEDs under the dash and the seats. The 12v outlets will be live all the time, but the LEDs will be powered on with the car. I installed an ign-controlled fuse block on the left and an always-on fuse block on the right, both under the dash.

I have some rocker switches I picked up a while back at an RV surplus store. I will look and see if they are capable of fitting. I will try to remember to look tomorrow. As I recall they had the clips built in to fit a rectangular hole. Probably small chance they will fit but you never know! Do you happen to have the dimensions of the hole?

Thanks. It would be nice if they would standardize hose switches.

There are a bunch of different sizes for snap-in switches, and not a lot of standardization. However, from what I recall reading, Honda is fairly consistent across their models.

Assuming the blanks haven't changed from the GE8 model, both the interior ambient illumination kit and the fog light kit came with a switch, but that's a pretty expensive way of getting one and the switches have funky pin connectors and special symbols and stuff. (The 3rd generation interior illumination kit doesn't come with a switch, and I guess fog lights are installed from the factory on all the trims.) Maybe you could find something at a junk yard. I think there are some aftermarket switches that fit perfectly, as well, but there are many that don't.

I was hoping the owner's manual would show switches there, and I could order them. My '97 Civic had an identical setup, but the blanks were perfectly smooth on the back, so I could cut a hole for a small switch.

You can probably find switches to fit from Digi-Key or Mouser.

It'll take some digging. Each listing has a PDF spec sheet with the exact dimensions of each switch. Let us know when you find the perfect one!

With my Scion, I was lucky enough that a switch carried at Lowe's perfectly fit the blank spaces!. I doubt that this good luck will follow me on the Fit.

I'm going to Lowe's tomorrow, and I'll see what they have. I've taken the plates out to match them. I'd like switches with indicator lights.

On looked on the Advance Auto site. They have lots of switches, but they're keeping the dimension a secret. I'll find out what size they are tomorrow.

Supposedly the Daystar switches (e.g. Daystar KU80011—there are a few other lens colors too) fit with minor or no modifications. Here's a picture at Amazon of one in a similar spot on a 2003 Accord.

It's worth noting that switch current ratings are not comparable between AC and DC. AC current ratings are very frequently much higher than DC ratings because the AC current goes to zero periodically during the cycle, breaking any arc as the switch contacts are opening. DC switching is much harder on the switch. If there is no specific DC rating, it's probably best to use a relay for any substantial load.
