ECON test results

I just posted some ECON button test results in a new thread. AC was off, MPG increased by about 10%.

This thread discusses why the Fit indicates you are out of fuel when you actually have two gallons left. It is damaging to run the car all the way down to zero gallons, because all the crud at the bottom of the gas tank will get sucked up into the engine and clog things up.

The question for me, someone who has pretty consistent travel habits, is if I get two weeks out of a tank of gas without eco, how many more days could I go with eco engaged full time. For me it always seems to come down to how long I got to avoid gasing up. Great real time avg numbers is one thing, but it doesn't always add up to making a tank last longer, oddly enough.

I do a lot of MPG testing in my Fit, and I am pretty sure you will get a least another day out of your tank, but no more than three. It would help to know whether you drive mostly city or highway, how much you run the AC, and whether you have a lead foot.

I wouldn't trust anything that sales guy said based on that comment. The ECON button can be left on all the time if you want the best mileage. I always drive with mine on. Besides fuel savings, it also makes the ride smoother.

It will make the largest impact on city driving because everytime you accelerate from a stop, the dulled throttle response will encourage you to accelerate more slowly, saving gas. The ECON button also reduces the energy requirements of the AC system, so the ECON button will always save gas when you are running the AC, regardless of driving conditions.

wish the fit had a larger tank. I am having to fill up every couple days.
Was one of the reason I was looking at the similarly priced VW TDI's for the ridiculous number of miles per tank.
