How to Use Eco Coaching?

Wondering how to interpret the eco-coaching lights so that I drive most efficiently?

This is my first Fit - two weeks old. Also the first automatic car I have driven in decades.

I consider myself a gentle driver ("little old lady") and don't accelerate or decelerate particularly hard.

Yet, the blue lights come on every time I increase my speed or go up even a slight incline. They even come on when I am stopped for a light - which I don't understand at all!

Am I supposed to learn how to drive so that the green lights stay on all the time?

Yes, you want the green lights as much as possible. Of course, you can't do it all the time, but try getting up to speed gently and then coasting as much as possible or barely feathering the throttle to maintain your speed and momentum and that should help your MPGs.

Oh, and the light goes blue at a stop because you're getting zero MPG!

I must say. Coming from a Prius with a similar feature (instant mpg meter), it's very easy to drive the Fit in a gas conscious state of mind.
