So I mentioned before my plasma cluster didn't shut off on its own after 15 minutes.** Today I popped in the OEM dome lights and tried it out.* Apparently, the hatch light turns off after 15 minutes if the hatch is open.** The dome light however, when switched to the ON position (not door), stays on past 15 minutes.* I left it on, went in the house, and set my phone timer to 1 hour.* Came back out after the hour and saw the dome light was still on.* Locked the car with the button on the handle AND tried using the button on the fob - dome light still on.*

I know the headlights turn off on their own really quick. Hatch light 15 minutes. Radio about an hour or hour half.

It seems the dome light ON position doesn't adhere to an auto-off rule that the hatch light and other electronics in the car follow. Is anyone else having this same issue? Maybe that's a possible reason for battery woes?

That person was either wrong, or has a different trim level than you.

 

The dome light in the door position will shut off after fifteen minutes if you leave the door open that long. The dome light in the on position will stay on forever (well, until the battery is exhausted). This presumably is so that you can turn the dome light on if you've been sitting in the car with it off for awhile and need some light—say after taking a nap on a long night drive.

At least, that's how it works with the GE8; I believe the new version is much the same. (I would guess that probably your headlights would stay on forever too if you switched them to on rather than auto, but I don't know that for a fact.)

 

The one thing I miss in the Fit is a master light control. My old car had a switch by the steering wheel that turned on and off all the lights in the car. Sounds trivial, but I used it all the time and miss having it. Having to individually turn on the lights is annoying and has led me to leave a map light on for 2 hours the other night... Luckily I switched to LED's because at this rate, I would have definitely killed my battery.

 

The head lights actually turn off on their own too if set to On position. One thing I realize is the Fit has no speedometer light dimmer control? Do new cars not have those anymore?

 

I don't have my daughters owner manual here with me, but do the dash lights not dim, or brighten, if you twist the function post (for lack of a better word)? You know, the post you press to switch from trip A to trip B?

 

Whoa it's integrated into that? I've always only seen it as a separate rotary dial in other cars. Cool!

This would be correct. Honda salesmen are supposed to give you a technology tour/tutorial on the vehicle when you purchase it so you are familiar with all the functions. I know I do with all my clients.

 

Remember how long it takes to go thru the purchase process. After test drive, negotiating price, finance dept customers are exhausted both mentally and physically. By the time you do your final walk around only about 50% of what is shown is remembered...

 

This is true, which why o always offer customers a second tutorial if they would like to come back at their convenience. Goes a long way in regards to repeat business & referral business.

 

Yes this is correct.
In reference to my battery woes, I have never touched the dome light to change its setting so unless it is like those magical guns liberals talk about that go off on their own that wasn't the issue.

 

Magical lights will only go off unexpectedly when you're cleaning the car, and even then only if you clean the car without unloading it first.

Emptying your car out should always be the first step in cleaning it.

 

1. Always know the state of your lights (on/off/door, etc).
2. Make sure the light will not illuminate anything you do not want to see.
3. Always be sure of what triggers the light and how long your battery will last if you turn the light on.
4. Keep your finger away from the "on" switch until you have made the conscious decision to turn it on.

 

Also remember that lighting is strictly regulated. Modifying yours to High Intensity Discharge may be illegal in your area, and concealed carry is generally a requirement for your off-road lights.
