Dashcam cable routing

Cheesewhiz asked about dash cam installation, so I put together a quick video showing how I routed the cables for my G1W-H. Thought I'd throw it up for posterity.

Here is another one that my friend swears by:

Amazon Amazon

It "hugs" your existing mirror. I like the fact it got a built in LCD screen to make sure it's working properly.

Here is the video in action:

No offense but that looks like a re-badged g1w which is pretty widely regarded as the industry standard.

If any of you live in hot climates I would recommend getting a dash cam that uses a capacitor and not a battery, as the heat will likely cause the battery to swell and damage the camera.

The G1W is available with a capacitor and you can swap out the battery in the Mobius with a capacitor. Both are great cameras in the $60 price bracket.

For good info on dash cameras check out: https://dashcamtalk.com

Wow. The footage from those dash cams is definitely not up to snuff in my opinion. My iPhone 4 does waaaaay better, IMO. If you can't read plates, it just isn't clear enough for me.

The DOD units are very good dashcams. Not sure of that particular model, but I know one of their units uses the exact same chipsets as the G1W. The big difference was the DOD unit's firmware was more refined and had additional options. You could actually flash the G1W with the DOD firmware, but finding the DOD firmware can be a challenge as they don't make it available to customers - only vendors.

I ran my wire on the drivers side A piller. I added an add a fuse kit with a 5 amp with a an accessory plug and plugged the lighter cord into it. It is powered by the ACC bus, meaning it shuts off power when ignition is off. It frees up my front accessory outlet for other stuff and looks clean too.
