Headroom in 2015 Fit

Hey guys, I'm new to the Fit freak forums and would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my responses. Thanks again.

I was wondering what you guys think about the headroom in the back seat of the 2015 Fit EX or EX-L. I'm Asian decent, and I'm about 5'8'' and found that headroom would be a bit limited. I don't really consider myself tall but I do have some friends who are considered tall and are over 6 foot. What do you guy's think about the head room in the backseat on the passenger side, driverside and middle seats?

I'm contemplating purchasing a 2015 Honda fit because it has all the "bells and whistles" I'm looking for in a car, the only major drawback is the headroom in the backseat. What do you guys think?

I'm 6'-4" and fairly normally proportioned (not long torsoed, in other words). While I wouldn't want to make an all-day trip in the back seat, I do "fit." My knees brush the front seat backs and my head is brushing the headliner, but I do fit…

I took three other tallish and somewhat heftyish males to our favorite lunch spot a couple weeks ago, and the two who rode in the back couldn't get over how much room there is.

This review features a taller person sitting in the back...

Also, I'm 6'3 and find the rear seats very accommodating. The Chevy Sonic and Ford Focus are not even an option, the Kia Forte and Mazda3 are close but at a higher price.

Putting it in perspective...

I'm 5'10" and I fit in the back with plenty of clearance. Here's where the Fit fits with some other vehicles...

Vehicle Rear Seat Headroom + Legroom
---------------------------------------------
Honda Civic Sedan EX 36.2" + 36.2"
Mazda 2 37.0" + 33.0" (no moonroof)
Honda Accord Sedan EX 37.0" + 38.5"
Mazda 6 37.1" + 38.7"
Toyota Corolla LE 37.1" + 41.4"
Ford Fiesta Hatch 37.2" + 31.2" (no moonroof)
Mazda 3 5-dr Grand Touring 37.5" + 35.8"
Toyota Yaris 5-dr SE 37.6" + 33.3"
Honda Fit LX 37.5" + 39.3" (no moonroof)
Honda Fit EX+ 37.6" + 39.3"

Ford Focus ST Hatch 37.9" + 33.2"
Nissan Versa Note 38.0" + 38.3" (no moonroof)
Toyota Camry SE 38.0" + 38.9"
Honda CR-V 38.6" + 38.3"
Toyota RAV4 38.9" + 37.2"
Ford Escape 39.0" + 37.3"
Mazda CX-5 Touring 39.0" + 39.3"

I got specs for moonroof models where I could find them.

I own a 2008, a 2012 and a 2015 (with the sunroof).

It might be subtle but the 2015 seems much more limited. I had a guy at work 5' 8" comment it on it after we went to lunch. He had been in the back seat of the 2012. The sunroof and the angle might make it feel at tad more claustrophobic from a headroom standpoint.

Both the 2012 and the 2015 are 60.0" high per Honda's specs. The 39.0" rear headroom of the 2012 basically translates into its rear seat being 1-1/2 inches lower than the 2015's.

Using the non-moonroof LX as a comparison, we could say the 2012's front seat was 0.9" lower than the 2015's front passenger seat. The EX+ 2015 models lose another 1-1/2 inches to the moon roof for a 38.0" front headroom. So if 37.6" is a problem in the rear seat, the front headroom isn't much higher on a moon roof model.

But this is all irrelevant if the OP isn't considering a used, older Fit.

I was going to post up my review - haha - beat me to it. I should note that I'm 6'4" and am long in the torso. I fit (ish) with the rear seats non-reclined. With the seats reclined I am straight-up head into headliner. Very uncomfortable. With the seats upright I'm good for short trips, like going to lunch with coworkers, etc. But I definitely wouldn't be good on a road-trip back there. Headroom in the front is superb though.

From an anecdotal perspective I was in shock at how spacious the car is inside when I first sat in it.

It's a bit like the Tardis, small on the outside and big on the inside.

I do not fit in the rear seats of a GK, I fit comfortably in the rear of a GD/GE (in fact rode in the back of one from WI to CO in one go without issue).

I am 6' tall with a longish torso. My head hits the headliner at all times.

I am 6'6". I've grown up being accustom to some level of uncomfortableness in most things (ducking when others don't, having my knees hit the seats in front of me in cars, planes...). I am OK with it to some degree (which surprises some given how much of a whiner I normally am). So keep that in mind when you read the below.

The front driver's seat is fine as far as headroom is concerned. Even with the moon roof in the EX my spikey hair barely touches the ceiling. My right leg has plenty of room. My left? Something doesn't seem right about where I should place that foot but its not uncomfortable.

Normally when I test out new cars I leave the driver's seat where I'd have it and sit behind it. When I did this with the fit I was surprised...tons of legroom. Most definitely more than any car in a similar price range (even more than a Camry). Headroom in the back? Not great. My spikey hair can get smushed down more than I'd like but its not bad. Again...pretty good for the price range (IMO).

My son is definitely taking after me. He is only 7 now but he complains about the room in my impreza. Which is why I am pursuing the fit. I am confident he'll be fine back there for the 10+ years I intend on having the fit for. That and he won't be sitting in the back as much when he is older.

So if you were only as tall as Dolph Lundgren (6' 4-1/2"), you could sit in the back seat of your Fit without smushing your hair?

That's funny. I thought the whole point of lengthening the wheel base was to give more rear leg room.

It was... but this thread is about headroom and not so much leg room. People built like this need headroom more than legroom:

Longish Torso

Thank you for your feed back. I actually test drove the car and sat in it at a local dealer selling the 2015 EX. Overall, I loved the fit and finish of the car, as well as the ride quality, its just the headroom in the back. I don't consider myself tall at all as I am a 5'8'' male living in SoCal but even my very petite girlfriend who's about 5'4'' finds the headroom in the backseat a bit constricting. Despite that, I think I'll have to go back to the dealership to test drive it again and feel out the backseat before making the purchase. As of right now I'm about 90% towards purchasing the car within the next 4 months.

Thank you again for your feed back!
