Too tall to fit?
Too tall to fit?
Hey everyone, I've got a quick question. I'm 6'2" and took a 2015 Honda Fit for a test drive the other day (EX 6MT). It was an awesome ride, and I'm very seriously considering purchasing one. I have one qualm with it though, and that's that it just doesn't quite fit me.
With the front seat all the way back, I still have to bend my knees a decent amount (I have long legs and arms). Additionally both armrests are awkwardly low for my height. I find that I'm actually more comfortable in the back than the front!
The two biggest reasons I'd want a fit over the competition is because of how well they retain their value, and the versatility of the interior space. I know that in the past people have modified their Miata's to be more comfortable for taller individuals. Has that ever been done with the Fit? Any recommendations on getting more comfortable in the 2015 model? I'd appreciate any insight (especially from current tall owners).
Thanks!

On the older models, some people have said that putting some washers or other appropriate spacers under the front two seat rail mounts to tilt the seat cushion a bit towards the back makes things noticeably better. I don't know for sure how well that would work for the new model, but I can't imagine a reason why it wouldn't be just as applicable.
I'm 6' 0" and have no excess of leg room in the front. I can imagine an extra inch or two could be uncomfortable. Using the cruise control when possible is helpful. On the whole, I find that the Fit is acceptably comfortable, but there's certainly room for improvement still. Some of that is simply the nature of smallish cars.
(Reportedly, the Nissan Versa Note has much more legroom in the front and especially the back. Maybe you'd like to check it out. There's no sense in getting a car that won't be comfortable enough for you to drive, even if you love it otherwise.)

Yeah, I actually sat in the Nissan Versa Note, and it did have significantly more room both in the front and the back seats. I was surprised at how much legroom there was in it.
Man, I like 99% of everything about the Fit, but being able to actually... you know.. fit in it is kind of a big deal.

6'3" and no issues with the seating. You can lower the front seat by pumping down on the lever next to the drivers seat or pumping it upwards to raise the seat for more steering wheel room. Adjusted the steering wheel as well either up or down and pulling the wheel towards me.

Not every car is built to accommodate everyone. The Versa might have more leg room do to the fact that it has less cargo space. The 2015 Fit has more rear legroom compared to the 2nd Gen, also due to a small sacrifice in cargo space.
While I love Honda and the Fit is a great vehicle, you do need to be comfortable in your car, especially with your daily driver, if that's the case. Years ago I had a 2002 Ford Focus SVT. While a very nice car, the seat did not move back far enough. I started getting leg pains every night on the way home for work.
While I liked the SVT Focus, I couldn't take the discomfort. But I guess it was a blessing in disguise, since it lead me to my first Honda...an 06 Civic Si.
The OP has a tough decision to make, but you need to decide what's best for you in the end.
Oh trust me, I'm not going to buy a Nissan Versa Note. I need a car that not only has plenty of room for me, but especially for all my gear. No other subcompact hatchback comes close to the versatility of the fit (I actually love their trade-off for a couple inches in the trunk to add rear-seat legroom).
I'm glad to hear from people who are taller than me and felt comfortable. Maybe I need to sit in one again and spend more than 30 seconds getting everything adjusted

Pffftt..... Some of you guys who are disappointed that can't QUITE stretch your legs out should live a bit in my shoes. I'm 6'7" (was 6'8" in high school -- age and posture have robbed me of an inch) and have NEVER had a car that I could actually stretch my legs in. Even the mid-sized car wasn't enough. I've accepted that I'm going to be driving with bent knees all the time in any car I get. The Fit isn't quite as "roomy" as my mid-size was but because I've already been driving around with bent knees for 27-28 years, it isn't that big of a deal for me.
As someone else mentioned, I lower the seat all the way and slide it all the way back and recline it somewhat and find it comfortable enough. If I were about 6" shorter I would find it quite roomy.

This was my biggest decision maker. i went from a 94 accord that i could stretch all the way out in, and looked at a new one vs the fit. I went with the fit because i wanted the cargo space, and i wanted something different. im about 6' 1" and with the seat down and all the way back i cant stretch out. but i think its worth the trade off. its really not that bad in my opinion.
