Stupid confession
Stupid confession
Briefly, my wife and I were going to the YMCA like we've done many times, but this particular time I was running late so I rushed to transfer some of my belongings into my fanny pack that I use to carry my stuff there since I wear gym shorts.
We get into my Fit and it won't start, it just makes a ringing sound. I think about the thread in this forum about starting problems and also think how my last motorcycle sometimes blew a fuse in the starter circuit. I turn on the dome light and it's bright so that makes me think it's not the battery but the fuse.
So I stay home and my wife leaves in her car. I look at the fuse for the starter and it's good, so was the fuse for the smart entry. Then it finally hit me, did I take off smart entry key from all my other keys I carry in my pants and put it in my fanny pack? I unzip that pocket and it is not there.
The good news is, I won't make that same stupid error again.

Yep, smart key entry system is really cool to have but confusing at first if there is a problem.
I have a habit of checking the door locks before I leave the car. Since there is no way to check the driver lock since it senses the hand which will automatically unlock when the smart key is in my pocket. So what I do now is check the rear passenger door since it won't open. This way I know for sure it's locked.
Yeah I know the alarm would chirp when the doors are locked but there are a couple of times when I wasn't pay attention I thought I heard it chirp but weren't sure so I checked the rear door and it opened. So out of habit for so many eons I always double check anyway.
Also, took me awhile to figure out the dang lock button on the rear hatch! Had to read the manual to find it.

I don't think the car will even lock with the key inside. Have you tried it? (make sure you have the other one handy in the house).
How the hell did you enter the car without a smart entry fob in the first place? Please don't tell me you forgot to lock the car entirely the previous night. If that's the case, the "Smart" entry is not for you.

If the smart entry key is inside the car it won't let you lock it from the outside.
I park my car in the garage, so no I don't lock it there. That's why my car was unlocked at the time of my stupid mistake attempting to start it.
