4 quart or 5 quart oil capacity?

It's close to the 1st oil change on my 2015 Fit. Does it take 4 or 5 quarts?

Look in your owner's manual to be sure. GE8s take 3.8 quarts. I always put it 4.

Owners manual states 3.5 quart capacity including filter.

Good answer. DIY owners here have reported exactly 3.5 quarts to the top dipstick mark.

That's too hard! It's much easier to go on line, ask question on a forum, and wait for possibly incorrect information. Owners manuals are so late 1900s.

Don't overfill, BTW. Put three full quarts in, then crank the engine to fill the (new) filter (run it 30-60 seconds and shut back off), then after a few minutes to let the oil drain back to the sump, add your last ½ quart a bit at a time until your dipstick indicates right on the full line.

Few 4-cylinder engines take 5 quarts. That was the standard for
V-8s and straight 6s. Fours seem to take between 2.5 quarts (VW aircooled) and 4 quarts.

I prefer to keep mine a bit below full as many engines put the full level just below where the throws of the crankshaft touch the oil level. When they do touch they cause drag and aerate the oil so if you drive in a spirited fashion with the level full you might be getting bubbles pumped along with the oil. Save that last half quart for correcting the level when it drops into the lower half of the operating range. This probably won't happen when the car is new, of course!

Probably close to 4 quarts so 3.5 should be fine. I always like my oil level to be almost top of the dip stick.

I should start just putting in exactly 3.5 quarts and then check the dip stick after running the engine for a few minutes to check for leaks. Then wait 15 mins before checking the dip stick.

My old CRV I usually put in exactly 5 quarts and it always reached up to the full mark.

These days our cars don't "burn" oil so should be fine line as oil level is between the two marks on the stick.
