Spoon Sports K20A Fit3 GK5
Spoon Sports decided to swap in a K20A into the GK Fit just to see...
Here's the result:
From the outside we have your standard JDM RS model Fit with some newly release Spoon parts.
Spoon Carbon Bonnet.
Spoon CR93 Wheels and Twin-Block Calipers.
Around back there a new Spoon N1 Tail Silencer.
Under the hood we have this.

It was a one-off job and there won't be a kit available because it was quite complicated. The car is actually running 2 ECU's. One to control the engine which is from the K-Series car and the other to control the rest of the systems in the car.

Here is a build which has been done some time ago now and it hasn’t hit a lot of our general media or the internet (surprised?).
This feature car has been through the following:
-Featured on Hot Version episode 127 (Google is your friend).
-Tour across Thailand for showcase, why? because its the most popular car of choice for modifying cars over there.
We were very fortunate enough to have a see in person and test this very special Honda Jazz/Fit (GK) Spoon Edition which is powered by a K20a Out of a FD2 @ Mans Auto Part Hong Kong.
Mans Auto are the biggest dealer in Asia and their are the reason for this phenomenal beast to be existence. This article will be purely written from a car tuner's point of view rather than a reporter perspective.
This Spoon Jazz/Fit may not be a fully tricked out build and has blown gone all out, it doesn’t make 1000hp. it doesn’t have all the fancy upgrades and gadgets.
Purpose of this build:
-Give the car a bit more power
-Road balance
-Road legal in Japan and Hong Kong, to conform with government emission, safety and noise level regulations.
Solution = Replace the L15 that came with the car with a K20a motor.
Why is this Jazz so special?
Spoon has taking a rolling body from the Honda Assembly line and built it from ground up, the whole built took them 6 months to finish. What lies under the hood??
Custom Engine Mounts
Spoon's K20A FD2 Type R Engine
Spoon Throttle body
Spoon platted LSD.
looking from the outside it looks like a factory GK Jazz/Fit. All of the standard electronics that is avaliable in the factory car works the same in this Jazz/Fit ie: Air Con, Dash, Abs and SRS.
How did they get all of the factory electronics to work?
What Spoon did is ran dual ECUs, one ECU running the FD2 original engine Loom controlling the engine and the drive by wire throttle, the second ECU looks after the dash and the rest of the factory electronics. Also external relays have been added in to run the ECU and the fuel pump. The factory keyless ignition remains intact just like the normal Jazz/Fit two press and holding down on the factory start button to start up the car. Best thing about this car is that everything remains factory unlike a lot of swap cars it will end up losing a lot of the factory characteristics, which puts towards of a race cars build.
How did they Fit everything underneath the hood?
Fair bit of minor modifications has been done which will go pretty un-notice to the normal person. These things comprised:
-Re-plumbed the air con unit
-Factory FD2 airbox with a cold air feed from the front
-Lightweight Shorai battery
-Slight tweak to the bonnet catch for motor clearance
There might be a few more... but we cannot reveal all of its secrets.
This car was featured in one EP127 of Hot Version (Youtube Search), they informed the car makes 235ps@8000rpm, but we all know these motor will make up to 260-270hp easily. But saying that the car only weighs in only 1050kg and being Spoon the car will be more focused on balance and reliability. Spoon might not make their cars with heaps of power but we all know they will finish all their endurance races!
Some will ask, now that is converted to K20a or to a bigger motor it will change the weight bias of the car? With this build not all. Being CVT Trans from factory, the original motor and the new engine transplant is almost the same weight! so balance is the same.
Being so light weight and short wheel base plus the car was built for everyday use, after a lot of testing and data report the spring rates were chosen and gone with 6kg in the Front and 5kg in the Rear, front sway bar been upgraded and the famous Spoon rigid collars has been fitted out.
We drove the car up the narrow Mountain pass, our impression is that the car really handles well. With a lot of sharp-low speed - hair pins it didn’t give much understeering at all. If the car was a bit torqueier or slightly more power it might be harder to drive out the corners with torque steers, so the power output is prefect for that type of road driving. We thought it might have been better with a Close Ratio Gears put in but it worked prefect. The Jazz/Fit ran 215/40/17 tires, with warn out RE71R which drift king fried on the track at Gamma! It held the road just fine! The Spoon brakes also performed very well as usual and pads was good. With the signature nosie the Spoon Muffler makes, with the lowered Vtec activation point by the Spoon ECU, it really makes it a true Spoon Built Machine! Sounds just like a V12 Ferrari or a F1, without the looks! This Spoon Jazz/Fit could be one of the most undercovered sleepers out there!
