Keep in mind that you will only have access to your accessories (i.e. no turn signals). If you need to have use of your turn signals, after you turn the engine off, remove your foot from the brake and press the Start/Stop button one more time to put the ignition in the "On" position. That will give you access to all controls and features.

Thank you! I tried it the one way and lost the turn signal (radio, headlights, etc. stayed on.) I'll play around with it some more to get a better feel for it. In a long line of cars in a turn lane a lot of drivers don't even bother with turn signals, but there are times I'd definitely want it on.

Is there any loss of gas in restarting the car? Extra wear & tear on starter or transmission?

Love the idea of not burning gas while idling for long lights.

It might burn a bit more gas starting, but if you're going to be off for a while, the savings add up fast.

Yes, there's extra wear and tear on the starter. Not much; the folks who do it a lot never complain "I lost another starter again." I've never had to replace one.

Fuel injection and direct injection engines are much more efficient and don't require nearly as much gas at start-up as did the old carburetor engines.

Brand spankin' new fit owner here.
Might be too soon to inquire, but best I get a heads up from seasoned owners -

Picked up my lil' EX lady this morning. Left dealer lot with full tank, and some 48 miles later I'm already down 3 gas notches with a displayed mpg estimate of 15.2.
Noticed boost to 30.1 estimate with eco mode on but as soon as I turn off mpg drops drastically.

Weather is around 27 and driving has been mostly highway with a little city mixed in. Heat on low, and only 2 starts of the car in that time frame. Not aggressive with gas or brake.

Is there a break-in period, or should I be a bit concerned about this?

Did you reset your A and B trip meters before you left the dealership? Between any previous test drives and your car idling (was the car running/idling while your salesperson was going over all the controls for 15 or more minutes), the average mpg would be very low right out of the gate.
