Delay after shifting into Drive

I have a 2015 Fit EX, automatic. When I shift out of Park into Reverse or Drive, and release the brake, there is a delay of 2-3 seconds before the gear engages, as if the brake is still on. I know this is a feature of Hill Start Assist, but it happens to my car on level ground. Have others experienced the delay to engage? Is it supposed to happen on level ground? Even if I step on the gas the car will not move until the 2-3 seconds have passed, at which point it suddenly jumps forward (or backward).

Mine has a short delay shifting out of park, but I only notice it after cold starts.

Same here, when cold.

I put the car in N at long lights and flip to D when it changes and the delay is almost non-existent in those cases.

I shift to neutral and turn the engine off at lights, then restart when the light turns green and there is no delay.

Thank you for your replies. I only notice the problem when shifting out of Park, not Neutral.

My guess is that Hill Start Assist is defective, at least when cold. I have not had a chance to get the car very warm yet. I guess the transmission could be defective, but I think the problem is probably Hill Start Assist since the behavior is exactly what you would expect on a hill: a delay of 2-3 seconds when shifting out of Park. Maybe the car has a defective incline sensor?
