Yes. I hit a raccoon. There's a thread about it. It would be more hassle than it's worth to go back to the body shop that did the bumper work. I'll just deal with it. Prolly the raccoon damaged it. IDK. It was dark out.

I do most of my own work, and I'm careful about removal and installation. Still, the two rear plastic screws were always a nuisance. I'm glad I'm through with them.

Does anyone know the size of those 6 sheet metal-type screws that hold on the shield? They look like a #10.

Edit: I got #10's to work. Might as well have the shield on the car as on the wall.

Shield is back on car. God's back in Heaven. All's right with the world - for now.

I have the same problem. I could remove one and bring it to Lowe's, but I'd hate to have the shield fall off on the way there. Maybe you should buy some of those things the screws go into. They're called speednuts.

I had one that I brought home off of my daughter's 2016 Fit. I was going to order a bunch from McMaster Carr. Unfortunately I lost it and I do not know the correct size to order. You can get them from Honda at $6.00 each or from McMaster for about the same price for a package of 10 or 20.

Pay Honda $6.00 for a screw - sounds about right - in many ways.

I am trying to get the speed nuts. None of the ones I have around here fit. Most or mine were made for thinner material and are not metric.

Sheetmetal screws don't care about metric.

Update for those just recently joined this thread. I left my undercover off after the first free oil change at the dealer. Problem solved a long time ago.

No but the size if the speed nut does care. Length, width, distance to the center of the hole, size of the hole, and inside space is all measured in metric. There might be something close that is not metric that would work.

I do not have time now to figure it out right now and order some. I am all tied up with taxes. Tax day is next Monday. I have three pair to do in two states plus a re-file of a pair from last year. I sure hope it is better next year. I hate doing taxes.

If you have access to a datacenter, check some of the cage nuts and bolts. I was able to find a set that worked when the dealership left one screw off and the capture nut worked it's way out as well.

BTW Tax day is actually Tuesday 4/17

I'm going on a 2K road trip next week. I just put 6 strips of Gorilla Tape on the cover for added insurance. I don't want it flying off somewhere in Mississippi.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Honda "drop" the shield on future cars. (Pun intended )

Honda had an opportunity to do something with the shield when they made some changes to the 2018, but they gave it a pass. Pretty good bet that they're going to do nothing now for the rest of the GK life. Nothing will happen until the next complete redesign in a few years. If then.

Probably never; the problem has existed since the first generation Fits.

If they keep selling those shields, I guess it isn't a problem - for Honda.
