Is there any way to rent a GK Honda Fit?
Hey Secret,
I currently rent multiple cars a month and used to work for Enterprise. There is never a Honda Fit that you can rent. Honda just doesn't sell or discount to fleets and no major rental car agency carries Fits. There's the rare Civic or Accord, once in a blue moon, but that's about it. In two years at Enterprise, I saw maybe four Hondas ever pass through the lot among thousands of cars. The economy car segment for rentals is saturated with Versas, Accents, and Sonics that are sold for bare minimum.
Your idea is a good one though for a lengthy test drive. And I did get lucky by "renting" a Fit prior to buying one last year.
Here in LA, and several major cities, there are car sharing agencies that are essentially rental car agencies, but rent out people's personal cars. I tried FlightCar and got a 2013 Fit for a day with only 11k miles and a manual. It was enough to convince me to put the new Fit on my shopping list. Another agency, RelayRides, also does the same service. However...... you have little control on their fleet as it's based on who is willing to donate their car and a request on a specific model may not mean much. But it's about the only, conceivable way that you MIGHT be able to take the Fit on an extended drive

Go to a dealer, explain you are very interested in purchasing a Fit, but you have heard a lot of complaints about the seats and you can't entertain any actual purchase without an extended test drive. Trust me, if the seats are going to bother you, it wont' take more than half an hour. I'd request to drive the car home and bring it back the next day.
I love the fit, but didn't discover the seat issue until I'd had the car a couple days and had to make an hour long drive. TBH, if they hadn't already filed the car title, I'd have demanded they take the car back.
Interesting story, I returned to the dealer two days after purchasing the car in an attempt to get different seats or something. I asked them if anyone else had ever complained about the seats, to which they obviously replied "no". Then two weeks later they called me to "make sure I was happy with my car". As soon as I replied that I had resolved the seat issue, the dealer went on to ask what seat pad I had purchased because they had another customer that was complaining about the seats hurting their back.
