Software update for Navi?

The 2015 LX and Ex Fit head unit has GPS built into it - this can be confirmed by going into the diagnostic menu and testing the GPS.

What is the difference between the LX and EX fit head unit and the Ex-Navi head unit, is it simply a software difference? Would it be possible to flash the Ex-Navi software on an LX?

I very much doubt that Honda would undermine their own sales by making that modification easy.

GPS chips are really cheap these days so they end up being used for tasks as mundane as keeping clocks on time.

Besides, without the GPS chip, how is the NSA going to track your whereabouts? How else will the government institute a new tax on miles you drive?

The latter has been discussed. As cars become more fuel efficient, revenue from gasoline taxes is in decline, and state and federal governments are seeking new ways of raising taxes on vehicles. One way is to levy a tax on miles driven. To do this, all cars will need a GPS chip so the government can track where, when and how far you drive and tax you accordingly.

In that case that GPS chip is being snip snipped! I'll use a stand alone GPS unit, can't exactly match that unit to a specific owner or driver. Essentially all new cars are lowjacked, and if the government wants to (and likely is gathering data) then they can easily tax use that info for something evil.
