Well here's my current standings on locating the 2016 Fits in the Southern California area:

After physically checking in with Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos today, they aren't expecting any new Fits till the end of this month, at the earliest. Norm Reeves of Cerritos is also one of the largest dealerships here in my area.

Interestingly enough, Downey Honda (which is about 1/4 the size of Norm Reeves) claims that they are receiving 5 2016 Honda Fits this Friday. 1 of the 5 being the exact one I'm looking for. I'll definitely be checking with them Friday to see if their claims are true.

Community Honda of Whittier, Honda of downtown Los Angeles, Buena Park Honda, and as far as Honda of Corona would not give me a confident answer to when they will be getting their shipment in. The answers given to me were along the lines of "we could get them in as early as a couple of days" or "we aren't expecting arrival of the Fits till later this month, maybe" yet all the dealerships listed wanted to push a different unit already on their lot. It's understandable but I'm pretty firm on getting exactly what I want.

Ive been trying to get a 2016 fit since late august with no luck.
I've contacted 5 dealers and nothing. I test drove a 2016 ex cvt and loved it.
One dealer has a 2016 but it has 113 miles on it. So i know the 16s are out there.
I spoke to someone today and was told that they will not be receiving any fits
in until November/December.

I wanted to get rid of my current car while it was still warm here because its complete
crap in the cold. Just very disappointed with Honda.

You should buy one of them.

"Purchased 2016 LX CVT 8/16/15. Just found out today that it will be built 10/19/15, and then take 30-45 days by boat to show up here. To say I'm ready for it would be an understatement.

Sounds like a $50 price cut for every day of waiting over 60 should be about right. I spent June and July of 2015 reading the owner manuals while waiting, but you are being tested! What color?

Got the Blue (which I'm not thrilled about), but I'm tired of having silver, tan, and white cars. Hopefully, it will grow on me.

Status update:

After physically going to numerous dealerships to find out the availability of the 2016 Fits, the same answer was given to me from dealership to dealership... "we expect arrival of the Fit's sometime in the next month or so." One of the questions I asked was if they can provide a VIN of the new Fit's coming to their lot but each sales person I spoke with said that don't have that information.

I'm a bit confused with that one. They have a list of Fit's coming to them but they don't know the Vin numbers? Oh well...

However, in my search, I was able to find a dealership in Fresno, California that has a new 2015 white EX in a 6 speed. Fresno is exactly 241 miles from where I live. Although there is no difference in the 2016 from the 2015 Fit EX, is it worth picking up the 2015 when the 2016 model is a few months away?

There's one metallic steel in NRH in Cerritos I believe or they will be getting one very soon.

I'm familiar with the one you're referring to. NRH of Cerritos was where I purchased my first GK Fit from. My sales guy at NRH Cerritos, Darrel, was pitching his offer to me on that one. He even threw in an additional $200 off sticker price for buying a second GK Fit from him but I'm pretty keen on an EX 6 speed in white. I'd highly prefer not to have two Fits that are 100% identical; color for color, trim for trim...

I wanted an EX as well but my friend convinced me to get the EX-L since it was the only one available in California at the time. Its easier to find a unicorn than to get a new fit exactly as you want it. Wish you luck getting it!

Will they give you a good deal on the 2015? There seems to be no changes for the 2016. If I could get a 2015 for a discount then I'd buy it, but here in Toronto all the 2015s were gone since May. You should at least consider the option by talking to them.

You may need to wait until next month or January for a 2016. It is ridiculous that Honda forces buyers through all these gyrations in order to buy their car. How is this beneficial to Honda?

A local Baltimore dealer has a '16 J -VIN EX-L Fit in yellow. Even if I did look @ A J VIN it would be a DX manual as they trickle in, and not in yellow.

There's no DX trim in America though...

I guess I meant LX or whatever lowest US market configuration is called. I cannot bring myself to take a CVT in any trim. Seems I can live with cheap plastic trim but not with the CVT. Manual with no proper O/D ratio is not great news either.

I should have looked to see if J car still suffers from front bumper cover sag and A pillar interior trim misalignment. I was too busy being unimpressed with CVT vibration in '15 CVT Touring (vehicle for wife).

My complaint was directed at the CVT in the CR-V Touring. Entirely different vehicle.

In either event, I go out of my way to buy conventional auto or manual. CVT is not for me.

2016 EX-Ls are starting to show up in my region (north Florida). Color choice is pretty sparse, and most dealerships around here are only getting one or two at a time. I was hoping to get a 2015 as 2016s were coming out, but there weren't a whole lot of good options up here.

In the end, I ended up driving 300 miles (5 hours) to northern Alabama to get a Passion Berry Pearl EX-L. The dealership was horrible and the drive was terrible, but still happy with the choice. Even though a lot of people are saying you should compromise on color I would disagree. I would never compromise on a brand new car. Either wait for inventories to increase, or increase the distance you are willing to go to get the car.

It looks like the 2016s are coming into Toronto now (CVTs, at least). I'm picking up my 2016 on Wednesday - that is less than a 3 week wait from when I signed the purchase agreement. I was originally told it would be up to 6 weeks.

A friend of mine picked hers up on Friday and hers was also early. We went for a ride on the weekend and WOW, I can't wait for mine.

Honestly, it depends on the VIN/production date. It seems like a lot of the recalls we're seeing were on roughly the first 20,000 2015's that were built, so I'd feel a lot more confident in later production Fits. Plus the fact that it's an "old" model might give you some room for negotiation.
