2015 Fit 6mt

Just bought a new fit and I'm running into a random issue. Sometimes I can't shift into first gear. I have to shift to second then it will go in. Another question is when I'm on the freeway going 70 to 80 and shift up into 6th gear, my revs stay between 3-4k. I'm used to revs going down to 2-3k. Is this typical for Honda? First time owner.

Generically, the first gear issue is common with all manual trannies...the gear teeth don't line up so you need to shift to another gear FIRST to move them a little.

There's always the possibility that your shift cables need adjustment, though.

The high cruising RPM is a function of the gear ratios...it was mentioned during road tests of the GK that even though a 6th gear was added, the top ratio remined the same as the older 5 speeds.

So yeah, it's typical for Honda. Our GD cruises at those RPMS (an so does our MT CR-V).

^What he said. With the 6th gear gripe, I honestly don't like it either. I was shocked that Honda would do something like that. It makes sense, since our tiny little engines don't make much power until the 3000 rpm mark, but it's quite annoying when you're trying to drive faster.

On the plus side, this does make highway passing a little easier if you don't feel like downshifting.

while rolling to a stop, shift into 1st and back into neutral. this way ur collar will be aligned to the fork and will allow easy entry into 1st gear when the light turns green.

just one of many tricks for MT driving. have fun.

Thanks for the info and tips. Is it worth taking to the dealer for them to check it? I don't want to spend money on diagnostics if don't have to.

There shouldn't be any diagnostic fee for warranty work. Call first if you are unsure.

But it will be good for your peace of mind, and if there IS a problem later (I doubt it, though) you will have documented the condition.

They won't be able to do anything about the highway RPMs (that's built into the car).

Most manual trans drivers will habitually shift into a different gear (reverse or first) if the lever resists movement at first. It becomes second nature.

The important thing is not to try and force it. That leads to possible chipped gear teeth and worn synchronizers.

I haven't had the shifting issue into 1st. But maybe it is because i double clutch.

Some cars i've owned do have more trouble downshifting into 1st gear and some have no issues. You should clutch to neutral first then clutch in again to first if this is an issue.
