Got rear ended last night, anyone else got into a major accident with their GK5?

Long story short,

at a stop, red light, Ford F150 barrels right into my hatch.

the fit was still driveable, and the other party already taken liability.

I took the car to the shop today, so we will get an estimate come time monday.

do I need to demand for OEM parts since the car still somewhat new?

---

on a seperate note... the damage is pretty severe, so im wondering if they will total the car... but if they do, I just came back from my dealership... JH vin Fits are incoming....

Do you have any photos of the damage? They'll probably write it off. The Fit is not expensive, so it takes not much to reach the writeoff watermark.

Hopefully you have no pain. If you feel any neck or back pain ensure you get checked out and documented at a hospital. Whiplash is pretty common for getting rear ended.

I got rear ended a few months back. Car was totalled. Was looking for a replacement but couldn't find one anywhere. Ended up with the HR-V. Anyways, my damage was so bad that it buckled the roof at the B pillar. I'll post a few pics later.

sorry to hear ETfit. as torontoboy mentioned make sure u are not feeling any pain around ur neck. whiplash can come a few days after the accident. go to a doc if u feel pain. it can get worse.

Our insurance company will always pay for factory parts on cars less than a model year or two old.

You can ask for factory parts, too. Just to make sure.

It's your car, and if you want OEM parts, it's your right to insist on them.

The local body shop I've used always uses OEM parts. The owner told me that he spends so many hours getting aftermarket panels to fit that there's no cost savings when he's done.

Also make sure that whatever shop is doing the body repairs, they're ProFirst certified. With all kinds of high-strength steel in newer cars these days, you want a body shop that knows how to deal with that stuff.

To answer your question, yes I would only accept OEM materials, and it is always advised to avoid accepting a check until you are 110% sure you are not injured. Some injuries take days or even weeks to develop.

I would love to see photos of both vehicles as we have a 2011 F150 and a 2015 Fit in the driveway. In addition if you can provide any more information on the crash, I am always curious. Was he/she texting, eating, looking down? What was the speed of impact and did they try to break before impact or hit you with the gas still down? Male/female driver, young or old, asshole yelling at you for being stopped at a red light, or apologetic for causing you harm?

I hear that a 5-10 mph hit to the hatch is around a $4,000+ repair. Of all the accidents I have seen with the ford being the victim, the truck gets to drive away with minor dents. I was rear ended in the truck last winter and while the offenders front fender was destroyed, they drove a mid 90s minivan, I had a little paint on the ball of my trailer hitch. I would love to see what happens to the Fit, as I assumed it would be totaled in any medium speed or higher hits.

Wow to bad to hear form all your crashes. If you where back ended you should wear the thing that goes to the neck. It should be mandatory that will make a lesion that could carry problems in the future. I can tell from experience and many other I have heard from family doctors. So never put your life in danger no matter what.

Anyways it is cool to know you are good and some pics would be awesome.

hey guys,

i will send photos later,

as an update, the shop has called, the damage is too much, north of 13K to fix, and ive had to Fit for a bit more than a year, so around 17K worth, they wil total the vehicle.

I have GAP and better car replacement from my own insurance, so Liberty mutual advised me to send the claim their way now, instead of having statefarm settle. I have yet to call them to let them know. but I been assured by my agent that my rates will not go up because I was not at fault, so I'm hoping they will cover for the entire loan of what I owe, and hopefully a bit in the pocket to help me buy another car.

now that I know I must get a new car, im checking my options again, should i aim for a JH vin Fit, or buy a Mazda 3... i guess the decisions will need to be made.

More important than your car is did you suffer any neck or spinal injury?

Now that you've driven the 2015 Fit 6MT for a year, will you stay with the 6MT, consider a CVT, go Mazda3 6MT or other?

If i had to buy one again fit it is really a nice car buy too big for me alone, i would go for a mazda 2(i think they do not sell them in the usa) or mazda 3 manual hatchback . Both cars are awesome, so you can;t go wrong with either one. Or wait for the next civic 2016 it is awesome. Other cars that you should look up is the hyundai elantra and kia forte. All are good(safe, reliable and good nice to drive) and it depends on you.

I was torn between the Fit and the Mazda3. In all honesty I would have chosen the Mazda as it felt more comfortable on the inside and had more power to the tires. Sadly I wanted a manual and with my wife's short legs she could not comfortably drive the longer Mazda without eating the dashboard to reach the pedals. Thus we settled on the Fit and I am glad we did. Lower monthly payments and hopefully the Honda reliability when we get into the higher miles.

Test them both out, but if your looking for the most bang for your buck, you will most likely come back to the Fit.
