My Fit got Roadkilled

Well not entirely. But it sure got messed up!

I approached a red light where a white Suburban was stopped. I had to make a right, so I got beside him. Just before I got to the line, he jutted out in front of me, turning right. His rear passenger side tire ended up molesting my driver side bumper and spoiler. Long story short, I ended up not calling the cops cause I’m a fool. Exchanged insurance. Got a quote from insurance. $667. My deductible is $500. I’ll have to wait till they decide he was at fault.

To avoid bogging down peoples' connections, I've provided a link to my blog, which has pictures of the damage.

Usually the insurance needs a police report.

Well now I know where Nampa, Idaho is. I had never heard of it. I love using Google Earth to see where the Fits live.

Should always call/file police report. Because when it comes to fighting this that report would save your life. Anyways, sucks to hear that =/

yah, for fender benders i dont call the cops. but if anyone's injured or a serious accident definitely call the cops to get a report. if you do not call the cops make sure you take down the other person's insurance info, driver's license info, license plate number, phone number(s), take picts of the damage on both cars, and mark down time, place, weather conditions.

police report will aid in the claims but will not determine who's at fault unless the opponent apologizes or something taking the blame. it's usually the insurance battling out based on probable cause and past experience (based on area of the damage) who gets to pay for the damage. well, that's from my experience.

hope you get your car back soon.

I haven't heard anything since I went to the insurance claims agent and got a quote and whatnot. Hopefully it's getting taken care of.

do you have a bodyshop appointment? you should get that first so that you can start on your repairs. some bodyshops have a long waiting list.

if you find a good bodyshop, bring your claim number and let the body shop know the info. they'll probably ask for that number and your insurance info., a copy of the claims estimate, etc.

let your insurance guy know that you're taking the car into watever bodyshop. they might have a 'preferred' bodyshop but you should be able to take it to any shop of your choice. might want to make sure first.

They ran a direct quote thru their preferred body shop, but I am not going to fork over $500, as I don't have that kind of cash laying around. I have to pay that if I want to get it fixed now.

crap this sounds almost exactly like what happened to me a few days ago! police guy came out and everthing but didnt take a report. but the damage done was enough to make me cringe. guys insurance deemed that since is a he said/he said ordeal they cant determine who is at fault so i gotta let the insurance companies fight it out now.

sorry that this happened to ya man. i know how you feel. trust.

I'm not too worried about it. I was 100% in the right. It's just a matter of waiting. Got any pictures of your accident?

you dont have a bodyshop recommendation by your dealer? you should get one cause some insurance use pos bodyshops with interns that have no clue how to color match. your Fit can come out looking like some patched work car. i see too often cars that have different shades of paint on their panels. looks so bad.

you can start off using your creditcard but it's up to you.

Ha my cards are maxed right now.

The body shop they use isn't too bad, from what I've heard and seen. However, I will probably end up using a body shop that does a lot of Honda cars. They worked on my first car before it became mine (was my aunt's) and they dis a great job.
