My family had a Toyota Camry with the 4 cylinder engine. The bottom of it let go exactly 1 week after the warranty ended. They gave us no help and we even went to the regional manager who basically told us we were screwed.

Keep believing in Santa and the Easter Bunny if you want but the truth about Toyota and their garbage products is out there.

I would not promote the reliability of any car, in this day and age.

My only comment was on the initial "fit and finish", in this case between the 2015 Toyota Prius and the 2015 Honda Fit, that both our daughters now drive.

I do hope we will not experience any catastrophic failures in the future, such as you did, or those people on the site you provided a link for.

Since we do not believe in paying for extended warranties on automobiles (we are old enough to remember when a new car warranty was 12 months or 12,000 miles). We already feel as though we are paying for a longer warranty with the higher car prices that came as a result of longer car warranties.

What we do, as a precaution against any major mechanical problems, is set a little money aside each month in a special savings account for just that purpose. If we never need it, it will become our next down payment when we do replace any of our cars.

Always a good strategy to self-insure and pass on the extended warranties....

What always amuses me is the sales talk of how great and reliable the vehicle (insert the one he is selling here) is. Then by the time you get to the finance office, they tell you how expensive and frequent the electronics fail, and essentially how unreliable your pending purchase will be and why you need to spend more money to regain that peace of mind you thought you had 30 minutes earlier.

This! I always had a comeback for this and had to use it two or three times, something like: "Gee, I thought this car was reliable but now you're saying no ... I've been on the fence about buying this car anyway so maybe I should just forget the whole thing and get another car. What do you think?" Watching them walk it back is awesome!

So true. I dealt with the finance guy by saying, "I am buying a Honda because of its reliability - are you saying there are quality issues that necessitates all these extras?" He just looked at me and said, "Okay, so you're passing on that."

Haha... that's the same experience I had when I bought my Fit, the financial service manager kept repeating how expensive this and that will cost if they fail. I just told him I am buying the Fit because Honda is known to be reliable.

Anyways, back to fit and finish on the Fit, I can see uneven adhesive applied to the front sail windows. Not a big deal unless you stare at it.
