Another recall: Rear Grab Handle Brackets

There's a new recall appearing on recalls.honda.com for "Rear Grab Handle Brackets". There is virtually no other information on the site about this recall so far, and "Remedy not yet available."

My 2015 Fit was one of the last to be built for the 2015 model year (built in April 2015), and I had managed to avoid the other recalls, but I got this one. I'm wondering how widespread this one is.

Also: looks like it affects 2016 models as well.

There are two recalls for incorrect labels on the 2016 HRV as well -

jeez these guys in Mexico seem to not have their sh** together, huh?

I took my 15' Fit in for the coil recall, and the service guy said the recall on the "oh shit" handle bars just came out last Friday. Its likely a very simple retrofit part to do. Dealership said they will have the parts in a few weeks. A quick job when i take it in for an oil change.

Wait, are we talking about the interior grab handles on either side on the ceiling for rear seat passengers?

Then please explain it to me. I have no idea what an "oh sh**" handle is.

Whatever it is, I put my VIN number into the recall site last night, and nothing comes up so far.

oh shit handle
The handle in most passenger vehicles and trucks that is located in the interior of the vehicle above the door. Used in extreme driving situations where passengers do not wish to be thrown about the interior of the vehicle. Situations that warrant the usage of the "oh shit handle" include hard braking, abrupt cornering, skidding, careening off bridge. It is usually considered polite for driver to warn passengers before they feel obligated to use the "oh shit handle"
Me: "Mike, I am going to take the 25 mph turn at 55... better grab the os shit handle!"
Mike: "I've been holding the oh shit handle since you started the car!"

For Canadians, here is more information about this recall. It can interfere with the operation of the side air bag.

Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database

On certain vehicles, the rear grab rail brackets may not have been manufactured to design specifications. In the event of a collision, they could interfere with side curtain airbag deployment and could result in a rear-seat occupant not receiving the intended protection from the side curtain airbag, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the rear grab rail bracket with one that has felt applied to prevent a puncture of the side curtain airbag.

Ha! Mine is in there now, but nothing is showing up yet. I'm sure it will take a little while before it's updated. Or, maybe we'll be lucky and it won't affect us.

Looks like owners will not be notified until December, when the letters go out. A friend of mine has the same manufactured date as you do, TorontoBoy. I hope it won't affect either of you.

Coil recall done

Hi guys,
I Had my coils replaced on my 2015 EX6MT under the recall Saturday (11/7/15). I didn't notice any difference in power at all. My car still feels sluggish right around the 2,000-2,500 rpm mark. I told the dealer about my misaligned front driver door which isn't flush with the rear door. They tried to fix "as best as possible" and actually seemed to make it worse than it was. Now I feel like I need to just mess around with it on my own and try to fix it. I'm really unhappy overall with this car. I have over 18,000 miles on it and am already thinking of getting rid of it. Everything creeks and rattles when I go over slight bumps and rougher roads. This car doesn't seem like it was assembled very well. Definitely not the quality I was hoping to get out of buying a new Honda. If I buy another Honda I'm thinking of an Accord sport with a 6 speed manual. These are assembled in Marysville Ohio. I'm never going to purchase a Mexican built Honda again.

I haven't had a single issue with the car and so far it looks like this might not apply to me as well.

Saw this in the news:

The recall affects 25,367 of the Fit LX vehicles, model year 2015-2016.

Owners can also determine if their cars will need repair by going to Recall Information for Safety & Defects | Honda Owners Site or by calling (888) 234-2138.

I should add here, I knew the EX was a better choice!

It looks like it affects 2015-2016 LX vehicles manufactured between April 11, 2014 and July 2, 2015.
