Just took delivery of a 2016 JDM fit

Five speed manual, undercoating, sat nav, center console, and some other stuff. I have much nicer rims for street tires, but since it's winter, the standard rims with snow tires are fitted.
And I love the color

Welcome! You either have a manual, or automatic (the slushbox). Enjoy!

It's a manual. Isn't that what they call a slushbox?

A lovely car, and 5MT! Congrats. That car will stand out in traffic.

I was wondering how you got a manual transmission from Japan, then realized that you are in Japan! konnichiwa. Here in North America all manual transmission Fits are made in Mexico.

Yeah, I'm in Japan. I actually ordered it around the beginning of november. If I had asked for a cvt, they could have had it in a few days. A manual transmission fit in Japan is exceedingly rare, to the point that I have never seen another one.

Special order, like ordering a 4wd fit.

Yeah a 5 speed. If I wanted a 6 speed, I would have had to order an RS model, which seems like tits on a bull to me.

Plus, that 5mt keeps me busy enough as it is. Especially now during the break in period.

'Slushbox' refers to an automatic trans.

I've heard more than one person refer to the CVT as a 'rubber band' trans.

Interesting that Honda offers a 5 speed MT for the car in your area.

thanks for letting me know I'm using the wrong terminology. Once you questioned my usage of the term, I realized my mistake. A slush box means automatic.

It's not just a different gear box, but lots of things are different between the real JDM and export models. Not least of which is that the steering wheel is on the right side.

Fits are sold with 6 speed manuals. The Jazz varies by region. i.e: 5 or 6 spd manual, a choice of engines (diesel, hybrid, smaller 1.3 petrol, our 1.5 petrol), interiors, wheel options...

Choices of interior trims varies such as in India, they get a beige interior with no magic seats on their base models, and only get the smaller petrol due to strict government penalties.

You'll find all this info searching for youtube reviews on the GK Jazz.

Can you please check your dashboard for any defects? On the '15 and '16 Fits that are made in Mexico, nearly all the cars I have seen have a misaligned panel on the driver side, next to the blindspot window. I have only seen 1 JDM Fit and it had this same problem as the MIM's. I would be really interested in knowing if yours has it too.

It's a small problem considering the cost of the car, but it drives me nuts considering my '14 Fiesta was looked so much nicer than it really was.

At this point I don't really care. All I really car about are mechanics. If the car starts and runs fine, all the other small imperfections can be fixed or overlooked. When I bought my 2013 Subaru Impreza it was perfect for the first thousand miles and slowly small rattles and squeaks started showing up. Build quality was great but things just start up after a while. 2007 Mini Cooper has excellent build quality but a bad clutch and timing chain issue. So...

I think it's interesting that the Fits we get in N America have the "big" engine, 1500 CC. I've noticed that engines have been getting smaller & smaller, like the 3 cyl in Ford Fiesta, etc. With all the mandates on MPG, would not be surprised if Honda comes out with a turbo 3 cyl, or maybe a turbo 1.2 liter 4 cyl. Maybe one day kei cars?

Keep in mind that Honda has been very reticent to bring turbos to the US. The first is the '16 civic 1.5 liter DI turbo at ~170HP.

Hmmm, wonder if those bits would fit on a Fit?

They have the 1.5 here. I looked at the fuel consumption between the two engines, and the price between the G and XL versions, and decided that I'd rather save a few yen.

The listed fuel consumption (on the honda brochure) is 26 km/l for the 1.3 vs 22 km/l for the 1.5.

Over the years, that's going to add up. In the meantime, the 1.3 is a fine engine that is really peppy compared to the old 1.3 with a CTV that my first gen Fit had.

I know I didn't buy a sports car. I bought a great little car that has enough room to sleep in when the need arises, and it has some real zip if I want to get the engine above 4k rpm.

And as a daily driver, that fuel consumption is a reason I bought my first fit. I'm not a petrol head because I can't afford to be a petrol head. I'm just a middle-aged guy that mostly drives to work and back.

not to be picky, but i think the term is referring the torque converter. DSG and other electronic clutch AT are not slush boxes at all.

nagano huh? i hear its warm in japan this winter. congrats on the purchase.
