I did order from Bernardi and am assuming that these are the updated (galvanized) parts, just because the part number suffix is A01, meaning one update from the original part number. Didn't call them to verify, though.

Roger that, let me know if they truly are galvanized, and I'll order them too.

I will do that. Too bad you're +/- 500 miles away, because you'd be welcome to use my garage to do yours, and have some stout while we're at it!

You could always paint them with rust proofing chassis paint.

I caved. The dealer told me they couldn't give me the parts to install them myself so I took it in. I am too ocd and I was uncomfortable the whole time, but they did a good job. Looks good.

I take my other one in tomorrow to get done.

Thank you for the offer! Yeah im a home brewer for about 8 years. Currently got an imperial chocolate stout 10.1% abv, belgian tripel 9.8%, apple spice ale with fresh fermented apples and maple syrup 5.2%, and a belgian golden ale 6.5% on tap.

Yeah, the next house i get will have at least a two bay garage plus a shed! At this point its cold as balls out in CT. Will be below zero next few days. If the install time wasnt a half day of lost time id have the dealer do it. Guess I may need to suck it up and have them do it because I don't want to deal with a more rusty bracket by the springtime and they are pretty rusty as it is now.

How long did it take them to install all 4 brackets?

Dropped off the Fit so they could the fix the scratches. They said it'd be a few days so they sent me off in a new CRV. We'll see how they do. ..

I dropped off my second Fit yesterday to have the brackets replaced. They called me beforehand and they asked if I was happy with how they did on the first one. They got the black sealer all over the door handles, but other than that, great. They offered a complimentary wash and wax at the next visit and they said to go ahead and bring the next one in. I told them no need; the black residue wipes right off with a rag and paste wax.

Being a busy Saturday, I got the second car back 6hrs later but it was nice and clean and no evidence it was ever touched. I shined a light down the door to verify they were changed and the new ones are black.

Overall, I'm happy with the outcome. I still hate going to the dealership.

We have been having some really nice days here in TX so I went to roll down my windows and only 3 of the 4 went down. Turns out they forgot to reconnect the wires after replacing the handle brackets.

More evidence of poorly trained or careless mechanics. Spent 3 days in Georgia at a Pep Boys because GM changed a part number that confused the not-so-Pep Boys who were totally confused. An experience mechanic went and looked, saw the problem and was on my way once the old man put his hand hand in.

Thanks to everyone who posted about their issues with the recall work. I took my Fit into the dealer this morning. Took photos of inside and outside of each door before dropping it off. Will check windows before I depart. In the meantime, my fingers are crossed......

Do you guys actually trust your dealers to do the recall work? I had a bad experience with a Mazda dealer where I went for recall work to be done on the engine intake system and they gave me a loaner car for like 6 hours and when I got the car back I noticed they spilled antifreeze somewhere on the engine as I smelled it shortly afterwards which tells me that they did actually open the hood and did something. At that time I had no doubts that the work was not done. A couple years later I experienced a problem with the engine that the recall was supposed to solve but then my warranty was expired. I didn't want to pay to tow the car to the dealer and argue with them so I ended doing the work myself with help of a friend removing the intake and other parts and my car sat for about 3 weeks while I was working on it. Luckily at that time I was unemployed so I had lots of time to research how to do this work and it did take 3 weeks to get everything completed. So at this time I don't trust the dealer especially how I was treated in the problems they fixed with the new Fit I have now. To me the dealers are scumbags that will let the car sit there in the lot while they go spill antifreeze on the engine to show the customer that "something" was done on the car while you are out there waiting for them to actually do the work.

I have a personal contact that works at my dealer that takes care of me. I also know some of the techs as I've done wedding photography for some of them at their weddings. Being that this is the 4th Honda I've had serviced with them they know me well. Its because of this that I am confident with the work they do. Not everyone has this with a dealer though obviously.

I guess you can say I'm a super user when it comes to dealerships. I get involved as much as I can with the people servicing my car, and being mechanically savvy I can figure out when they are doing a shitty job. Many owners barely know how to check the oil of their cars, and just care about does it start and drive from A to B. YMMV, but thats my take on dealerships. If they work with you, give them the business. If they keep you in the dark about repairs and just take your money trying to upsell you on stuff you don't need, find another dealer.

Door Handle Bracket Parts Received

These just showed up today (from Bernardi Honda). The new brackets are painted, so I guess they are NOT galvanized (painted works just fine, though; after all, most of the car is painted and doesn't rust . . .)

This is Honda part number 06721-T5R-A01. Note that in addition to the four brackets (two large and two small; guess the rear doors take the small ones???), there are four plastic clips of two different types. They look to me like the type that is used to capture the end of a bent rod, which makes sense since the door handles likely use rods to actuate the latch.

Big ones go in back. You can see them with the windows rolled down. Mine were rusty.

You could have just removed the old ones, cleaned them and painted them yourself with rust proofing chassis paint

For the $25 or so they cost me, I can't be bothered to paint anything . . .

Good buy Cookiemech! Actually my Honda contact was surprised that Bernardi and other dealers would even sell these parts to the public. Being that its part of a recall. If a dealer does not do the work, then the VIN# will not show that the recall was completed. being that this is not a safety recall, but a mechanical recall it may be treated differently. Then again I cannot think of any other reason why for example the ignition coils would be sold to a consumer.

I think the key word from honda corp is they should not, but dealers never have to be in full compliance with corporate. Its systemically impossible in my eyes. Things slip through the cracks always

Yes, but consider that a car could be wrecked and need such a part, regardless of whether the update/recall had been performed.

I had never allowed anyone, ever, to touch my pristine 2005 Tundra (15K miles, never in the salt even though it's 4WD). It had an outstanding (safety) recall on the lower ball joints from a long time ago. Finally this year I let the local Toyota dealer (with concern, but the week before had taken my wife's Sienna in for a different recall and inspected their work closely) perform the recall. I drove it home and again, carefully inspected the work. They even torqued the wheel nuts correctly. All work was done to my (high) standards, but I think I was lucky. They told me that the tech loved working on a pickup with no rust whatever.

Anyway, there's no doubt in my mind that they would sell the lower ball joints to anyone who wanted them, and they would be the updated parts.

If I find anything unusual or interesting when I work on the Fit this weekend, I'll post photos.

It appears that this thread has degenerated into a dealership bash. Just like any other group of people, there are the good, the bad, and the indifferent. That's also true of car owners of whatever brand.

Dealerships have to make money, else they won't be there whenever a new car is needed. How they treat their customers matters also. Bad service means loss of business and eventual failure.

There are super customers who seem to gravitate to super dealerships and there are customers who try to beat the warranty service. Others who are so cynical that the don't trust dealer warranty service, sometimes because of one bad incident.

I'm one of those customers who fall in the vast middle section, the indifferent (naïve). There different Honda dealers, good service from all. I am a mechanical klutz and I know it. DIY? NFW.

Bassguitarist is exceptional and gifted in many ways but note the word exceptional. A handful here are just too paranoid and cynical. I'm glad I'm not one of them.
