Don't eat my Fit!
From what I've read, this isn't unique to Honda, as more and more automakers are "going green" in response to consumer and government demand for more recyclable materials in cars.
Welcome to the brave new world.
Welcome to the brave new world.
You would think by now they would have developed another coating that is rodent proof yet still remains bio-degradable. My Dad's new accord was chewed on at his expense too, so this seems like a pretty valid complaint to me.
Rodents
I was hit twice by the nibblers. First time I went to a Honda Dealer, $115 if I remember
right. I could have fixed it in ten minutes. The Honda fix did not work. I have now
insulated the wires and wrapped them in heavy aluminum tape.
I found this and headed over here to post:
Your Honda Is Delicious To Rodents And Varmints: Lawsuit
I am going to try to get in on this legal action.

The problem is everywhere. Rodents gnawed through the wire that connected my landline to the pole. Rodents gnawed through the gas hose on my Honda lawnmower and drained the tank. During WWII Illinois made license plates out of pressed soybeans. The plates were known to be eaten by livestock.
Honda won't fix this until they lose enough new car sales because of it (or the bad publicity over this costs them sales). Sorry if I sound like a cynical old man, but the truth of the matter is that I AM a cynical old man.
Apparently this is a big enough problem that Honda makes a tape that seems to be helpful according to 54% of users as reported on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Honda-4019-2317-Rodent-Tape/dp/B00AJTG3N0/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1454350224&sr= 1-1&keywords=honda+rodent+tape
