Question about maintenance
Question about maintenance
My Fit is due for its second maintenance visit. I'm reading page 359 in the manual, and I'm confused as to what the dealer is supposed to do. It looks like "B" under the main items (am I correct?), but I don't get what of the sub items are to be done...1 & 2? I'd like to be sure before scheduling. Thanks.
Is the Maintenance Minder calling for you to service the car or are you doing this on your own?
At 8500 miles, I chose the dealerships 10,000 mile service which equates to main code "B" and sub code "1". It was $42. My maintenance minder wasn't displaying any codes. With my crazy schedule, it was just a good time for me to get it done.
If it's only your 2nd visit, you may not need the sub code 2 items done just yet.
CODE Maintenance Main Items
A Replace engine oil *1
B Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes/service as necessary
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
Inspect suspension components
Inspect driveshaft boots
Inspect brake hoses and lines (Including ABS/VSA)
Inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids
Inspect exhaust system #
Inspect fuel lines and connections #
CODE Maintenance Sub Items
1 Rotate tires
2 Replace air cleaner element *2
Replace dust and pollen filter *3
Inspect drive belt
3 Replace transmission fluid
4 Replace spark plugs
Inspect valve clearance
5 Replace engine coolant

Thanks for your reply. My car is low mileage, so I'm taking it in since it's been a year since my first (annual) visit. I just broke 11k miles in 2 years...we're retired, and we walk a lot.

Walking is good. I need to walk more to get rid of this gut of mine.
After 11,000 miles and 1 year, I would just do the oil/filter change and tire rotation. This should all be included in the cost - plus washing your car. They might do a complete inspection also where they check everything and I mean everything. I had a 4 page printout of all the work and checks that they did. They were also aware of the splash guard fastener complaints and didn't need the spare ones that I brought. I was impressed. They did a good job and I was out of there in 45 minutes.

I just did my oil and filter (3rd time since purchase), transmission fluid, complete bleed and flush brakes (2nd one), rotated the tires and inspected everything, all in my garage this past weekend. 18k miles.
It's about $75 and some elbow grease (for all the fluids and filter) to do it yourself.

I could be wrong, but I think the maintenance minder will alert you when your oil life is at 15%. Also, if you're getting near the 30,000 mile mark, your cvt fluid may need changing. So for now, the materials you need should just be the motor oil and filter. Plus rotate your tires if need be. And maybe a new air filter. That's all I can think of.

I made the appointment today. The service guy confirmed it will be a tire rotation, oil and oil filter change, plus the door handle recall.
After I got off it occurred to me: What about the cabin air filter?
Thanks again for the advice up thread.

They run about $23 at the dealership. I just ordered a Fram FreshBreeze filter for $14 on Ebay. I don't need one just yet but for that price I went ahead and bought one.
