What's a good price for a key ?

I misplaced my keys so till I find them I'm going to buy a new one. What's a good price for a replacement key for a 2015 EX ? Is there any option other than the dealership? I have been looking for 2 hours and finally give up.

On a related subject, is it possible to get an inexpensive copy of the just the metal part of the key? I know the electronics are coded and can likely only be replaced by Honda but in situations such as Bossharp's it would be handy to have a metal-only key. My wife, for example, likes having a key with her when I am the driver but keeps it in her pocket. The other day I was standing by our car which I had just locked and she was in the house. The car suddenly unlocks itself. I presume she had inadvertently pressed the button in her pocket and it would be nice to give her a key without the button (yes, I guess we could just remove the battery but I can think of situations where we might really only want a metal key). I keep mine hanging from my belt with a carabiner to avoid accidental activation.

Off the top of my head I remember the dealer telling me $150 for the LX, $350 for the EX. It is best to keep looking. The key has to be computer coded to your specific car.

$350.00 WOW ! I'll be calling the dealership in morning but that does seem excessive. For that much I'll devote a few more hours of looking for sure!

Seems like the right price considering what it's doing.

Sucess! I just found them. I had opened a bag of cookies and wrapped them up in a shopping bag and put them in the cabinet. .with my keys. I couldn't go to bed till I found them and now that I have I will keep better track of them knowing how much it will cost me to replace them. What a silly thing to do. Duh

Now that you have a good original key again, take that key and your car to a local locksmith. You should be able get a spare key made for around $100. The last one I had done for my brothers Honda was $85.00. The locksmith is a friend so your price probably will be a little higher. Price several locksmiths. The prices will vary widely with Honda being the most expensive.

Do Honda dealerships actually cut keys or do they just run them over to a local locksmith?

Most dealers have their own key cutting equipment. I believe all dealers are supposed to have it.

In my town, the dealer is the only place that can cut Hondas Sidewinder keys.
Lock shops in my town don't have the equipment to cut the keys nor program the immobilizer system, nor fix the locks and tumblers correctly.

I had the dealer cut 2 spare metal door only keys for my 16 EX. Cost was around $25, I'm sure it could done for less.
