How to Discourage Mice from entering my Fit?

Mice droppings in the glove box provides evidence that mice have been in my car. There were also mice dropping in the cubby aft of the shifter and to the right of the parking brake. I have not thoroughly inspected the rest of the car.

I have added a mouse trap, baited with peanut butter, to the front passenger floor, but this is not ideal for passengers, and frankly is a bit gross. I have no cat.

The car is parked in an unheated but closed garage in Toronto's 'burbs. There has never been any stored food in the Fit, but the mice seem to really like ripping up tissue paper. Wife is unimpressed. I've never had this issue with any other car before.

Please suggest some methods to try? Moth balls?

Put your traps in the garage (outside of the car). You're only inviting more into the car with the rich smell of peanut butter wafting through the vents!

I had a mouse problem with my '00 VW New Beetle, and had to pull the whole upper dash to clean out a nest. Doused it with vanilla scent (I think, been a while), which smelled a lot better than moth balls. Seemed to work, as I never had a reoccurrence.

We had this happen at work with our Ford delivery van thing. Apparently, hoses in many new cars are partially made from soy, and the critters like to nibble on that. A mouse had nibbled through a transmission hose and caused an Issue with the transmission. The dealer replaced the hose but I don't know if it was soy in the replacement. Anyway, apparently critters like soy. Go figure.

Alot of new cars use soy-based wires to be more eco-friendly. They are delicious to rodents unfortunately.

Leave a dish of anti-freeze outside your car. It smells/tastes sweet but kills them pretty quickly.

2016 Honda Fit: 1 mice: 0

Though we both really like my 2016 Honda Fit and peanut butter, one is no longer. Remove, reset, wait.

Pics, if you wish, but a little bloody.

They sell a rodent tape for the soy based insulation... We've got cats, and we still fight those buggers!! They've yet to find the Fit... Vacuumed out mouse turds on the engines of most our cars..

Best mouse trap so far.. take a bucket.. drill two holes for a rod near the top.. take a soda can.. drill it so it will fit on the rod and spin.. coat can with peanut butter.. put a ramp on the bucket.. fill bucket with water.. the jump on the can for the peanut butter, fall in the bucket and drown.. In my shed, I've had 12 mouse days in the bucket...

This would be my approach. I'd also check around the garage for a nest.

So far, traps in garage beside Fit, 2016 Honda Fit 2: mice: 0.

The traps work a treat.
