Passenger wiper: 14-inch vs. 13-inch

I'm looking at replacing the wipers on the Fit and the situation is murky for the short side. The selection is limited and it seems there's not even a consensus on size -- some recommend 14-inch while others say 13-inch. I was under the impression 14-inch is OEM and was wondering if anyone even uses the 13s.

If I remember correctly, there are two different sizes for the Fit for a reason, one size for the driver's side and another for the passenger's (not counting one for the hatch window). Hold while I fire up the PDF manual specs.

Damn, not there! There's a reason for the notch on the passenger's side because one wiper is longer than the other ... maybe. As stated before there is a need for a more detailed manual from Honda, free or at least reasonably in price. I don't want to rebuild or do heavy maintenance, just to have access to niggley little details like this.

What I get for not double checking. wrong all the way around. According to AutoZone, there are two blades. The two front blades are 28" and the notch on the passenger's side is to accommodate the extra inch or so. The hatch blade is the 14 inch blade. To get the best coverage, that's what is recommended.

Since I'm no politician, I am willing to correct myself 3 or more times. Driver's side 27". passenger's and hatch's 14". Refills are slightly smaller (700 and 350 mm). This is correct by physical measurement.

Guys, the easiest and most cost effective way to change those wipers is to replace JUST THE INSERTS. The driver is 700 mm and the passenger is 350 mm. The blade (frame) is reused and just the 'rubber' inserts are replaced. Every Honda dealer carries them and they are cheap compared to buying a whole replacement blade assembly. Trust me, the wiper frames Honda uses last a looooong time. You just have to change the inserts, nothing more. My experience using aftermarket blades (frames and inserts) is that they don't wipe as well or stay against the glass like the OEMs. You'll get a lot of skipping and inferior cleaning. Keep your OEM frames and simply replace the inserts. Total at my dealer is less than $10 for both.

14 AND 28 inch on the front. special 14 with mount on back. I replaced all mine completely with ANCO.

Front

Anco 31-28
Anco 31-14

Back

Anco AR-14B

Now I can get refills from anywhere and avoid Honda dealer

James, I've tried most of the aftermarkets on various cars, but on Hondas they never seem to look as good or work as well as the Hondas. Most aftermarkets, especially ones in that size (for driver) are going to less effective than the OEMs. Why worry about buying the inserts from Honda? They are CHEAP, as cheap as aftermarket inserts and far cheaper than aftermarket replacement blades. Trust me, aftermarkets works ok for the first couple months, but I've never encountered a pair that work as well or as long or even look as good as OEMs. I'm just saying for under $10 you can replace the inserts and Honda dealers around me always have insert coupons available...

That's what I do periodically:

Front wiper inserts 76622-T6A-J01 & 76632-T5A-J01
Rear Wiper Insert 76622-T5A-003

What Rooster said! These wipers are odd enough that it's better to keep them OEM. The fact that OEM is cheaper seals the deal.

I second the OEM insert suggestion. For $10 and they put them on? No question IMO.

I live 60 mile round trip from nearest Honda dealer. I can get refills from Bernards Honda at a discount for both fronts and rear for $13.59 and $15.63 standard shipping which comes to $29.22 just for refills. Anco refills are really cheap at any Autozone or Walmart and they are a lot closer. The last set I bought with the frames lasted 20 years. Just changed refills. Had to spray steel frames flat black every 3 to 4 years to keep them looking new.

James I can see if you're that far from a dealer why the aftermarkets are such a good choice for you, but whatever you do, DON'T throw out the original Honda frames. Oftentimes, Bernardi, College Hills, and Conicelli Honda Parts (my favorite since it is so close to me) run free shipping. Get on their mailing lists and you'll be notified. That way, it's easy and cheap to get inserts, filters, and other needed parts to have as back ups without having to pay the shipping.

Rooster:

Thanks for the information on the free shipping. I will watch out for that. Do not worry because the pack rat I am prevents me from throwing away anything good. I still have all my Fit parts.

Wow I wasn't aware that inserts were still a thing these days ... I found a pair at hondapartsnetwork.com for less than $10 if I'm reading it right (thanks 2Rismo2 for the parts numbers) and I'll try that out.

Don't think I've EVER bought a wiper blade except when I used to run "winter" blades on one car. I've always just bought the inserts. Still do with the Honda.

Too late for me here....previous owner replaced the blades/assemblies with ones that can't accept inserts it seems, so....if I wanted to do the insert route, would have to buy new assembly anyways

I replaced the wiper inserts today ... so easy. Now I'm just praying for some rain to test them out.

Good deal Bach. They'll function exactly as the originals so if you liked them, you'll like the new inserts. I always had trouble with aftermarkets, even the so called exact fit replacements. Funny thing... on Friday, I got an email from my local Honda dealer with some service specials. One was for wiper inserts. $9.99 for all 3 of them, INSTALLED. Keep an eye out for specials locally, oftentimes you can simply pick them up for the special price without having to have them installed.

You can't beat that fer sure. Good deal. I probably should have grabbed one for the rear but I didn't think about it at the time. I don't use the rear much anyway because it only seems to clear the pass half of the window and that doesn't help me all that much.

Rear arm wiper threads stripped !

Hey guys,
I made a huge mistake. I left my rear wiper on my 2015 ex fit then it iced up over night. I used my remote starter and BOOM the wiper motor was moving but the wiper arm wasnt !!
It totally stripped my wiper arm star insert.
Does anyone know if I can get another arm for less that 60$ canadian. Ilive in montreal Canada.
Or can I just remove the stripped star insert and find a used honda wiper arm and swap the star ?
Thanks Maxxx

Thanks for tips on inserts guys - mine is about 2.5 years old and about to need blades. I HATE aftermarket wiper replacements -- they've never worked as well as originals do. I'll pick up dealer-sourced inserts for the next service.
