Pretty simple question.

How many of you have had to replace your tires due to wear?
I've noticed that the factory tires that are on my 2015, purchased last July (2015) with 700 miles, now at just over 29K, are already wearing close to the bar. One definitely needs replacing and I definitely need an alignment because I smashed a pothole on the highway, but 30k seems awfully quick to me...

 

I can't speak directly to the OEM tires on the fit, but manufacturers are notorious for using the cheapest tires they can get away with. Also, remember that a 60K rated tire is actually considered to be good for about 1/2 that rating by the tire manufacturer (no idea why this is)

My 14 Kia came with low profile tires that most were reporting getting 14K - 17K out of. I went crazy on rotations and tire pressure and got 40K, but there was cord showing on one of the fronts at that point.

 

There are other threads about the roughly 30,000 mile tread life of the OEM tires.

I don't know, it kind of surprises me, that so many people are surprised. I've never had OEM tires that lasted much beyond 30,000 miles.

I think I've replaced every set of OEM tires I've ever had around that range.

 

OEM tires are designed to hold the rims off of the ground until you roll out of the dealership for the first time. After that, they are your problem. 30K miles is about standard. Frankly, you should be happy to get rid of those Firestones and to put something safer on the car.

 

If that, in my experience. Unless you're buying an expensive car, then the factory tires generally suck in many ways, treadwear being one of them.

 

I think sooner or later everybody has to replace their tires due to wear.

30k does not sound at all unreasonable for the factory tires. If you look up the warranty on them (separate from the car warranty), I suspect you'll see that's about what they're warranted for and hence their expected life.

 

I replace the new tires because... They almost always suck.

I don't even want to drive on them. Fresh set of toy's or Khumos or Continentals and I'm good.

Last car I bought I finished the paperwork at the dealer, drove across the street and had real tires installed. They gave me awesome trade in since they were still equipped with the little rubber strings from the mold. 1 still had sticker residue on it..

 

I used Michelin Defenders (rated 90K) on my Corollas before getting my FIT.

Never got more than 40K because I almost always use city streets.

Your driving pattern makes an enormous difference.

 

I typically just use the penny test unless traction in wet weather becomes poor.

 

I just had to replace the tires on my 2015 EX 6MT today since the wear bars were showing. I'm more than mildly frustrated since I only had 14k miles on the car, and its not like I am burning out every time I start moving. Tires were rotated every 5k miles, just very disappointed in the OEM tires. And of course the Fit has odd sized tires so they are all expensive when you have to unexpectedly replace them right before the holidays.

 

dont mean to preach but u guys should really consider replacing ur tires at 3/32 depth. even at that depth tires have a hard time treading water.

add colder wet weather and u will slip. trying to save a couple of hundred dollars is not worth it.

I still got tread at 21K but I'm starting to have wet weather issues so I'm going to be in the market for a new set very soon.

 

I would have replaced them sooner if I had realized how written they were, but when I got them rotated and balanced 3k miles ago they were fine so I didn't think to inspect them to closely, I only found it how written they were when I got a screw in the tire while driving around working the election.

It was a nasty surprise to realize how worn they were, didn't think would need to be replaced at under 15k miles

 

It must vary some between cars and driving habits. I bought my Civic new in 01 and got about 50,000 out of the set it came with and those were cheap a** Firestones that I was glad to get rid of. I could have got about another 5,000 out of them but it was coming up on winter and up in MN anything much below 4/32 you would have trouble in the snow. I will be interested to see what the Fit Firestone tires get. about 16,000 so far and just one trip to the dealer for oil change and rotation. I have stayed on top of the pressure to get the most miles I can out of them.

 

I hit 50,000 miles today on my stock Firestone. I've still got 5/32 tread left. All highway miles (50mi each way to work).

New tires are going to be happening very soon. I'm actually looking on CL for a set of stock rims and tires.

 

I have 45,000 miles on the OEM tires from 2009 but they are due to be replaced now.

 

Had to replace my stock Firestones around 35,000 miles, was VERY disappointed with the stock Firestone tires. They would squeal like mad if you took an onramp at even the speed limit. Not only that but they would set off the TCS when driving through puddles on the road which was terrifying.

Very glad to get rid of them.

We've had to replace ours twice (09 fit sport). First at around 60 (2013), and then at 90 (just last week).
