9 hours trip experience

hi, we drove to Indianapolis yesterday from Nashville forth and back. total about 600mil ( about 965 km) and I wanted to share my experience with you.

this car has more than enough power you need to emerge, accelerate, cruise with high speed and climb up on hills, thanks to Direct injection that gives you 130hp on a small light car! from a 1.5 engine !!!!!

very good head lights, very lighting high beam when you need it.

Fit is well known being versatile and spacy car from inside, but the front seats are not the most comfortable seats, I wished it has more lumber support.
another thing I wished to have on this car is the auto climate control, if you don't like ACC then you probability never had one or you don't know how to use it or yours was broken. keeping adjusting the temperature is very annoying and could be very dangerous distraction.
I need to mention that the all Canadian Honda Fit 3rd Gen come with ACC, I don't know why we don't have it here!

Glad you enjoyed your trip. We took a 3K trip in 2015 and a 5K trip this year. Some like the seats, some don't; we love them. Ten or eleven hour days and no pain at all.

As you said, plenty of power, insane room, great mileage. Could be a little pokier and a little quieter, but I've rented cars that cost multiples of mine that were worse.

Total convert.

in Sept it took mine on a 12+ hour drive to Ohio. Did great pretty smooth ride. It felt like I was going 70 mph, i look at the spedo and i was actually going 90. thought oh crap better slow down, lol.

Has more than enough acceleration to passed fast when needed, a/c worked great. Just needed an autopilot so i could get sleep,

Only the highest trim level, the EX-L, has ACC. It also has leather, Nav and the side mirror blinkers.

I drive 500 mile trips at least 4 times a month (GA to Fl) and I'm not the least bit fatigued from sitting in the car for 8+ hrs. Although I do use an orthopedic seat cushion which helps a lot. But like exl500 says, some love the seats and some don't.

I did a leisurely 1400 miles over two days, seat was so comfortable I wound up just reclining it in a nice dark spot outside McLean, Texas for about five hours. Not the best night's sleep I ever had but certainly not the worst either.

Like others have said, I'll echo the sentiment that the Fit is a great long distance hauler. I did a solo 7 hour trip last week and the seats were perfectly fine. On my 4Runner I had to use this gel/memory foam seat pad, but I actually forgot it on my trip with the Fit. I was dreading it but was surprised that I did not need it.

I was in a very mountainous area and as long as you're not using ECO mode, it's fine climbing the grades. Sport mode works really well going up and down the mountains to save using the brakes. I still averaged between 38-42 MPG between fill-ups as well.

Auto climate control would be nice. I have it on my other vehicle, and I got used to it. Kind of a minor annoyance on the Fit, but it is a budget car so it's not the end of the world, but definitely would be a plus if it was included. The HKS exhaust has a nice tone and did not get annoying. I have the CVT though so cruising RPMs is much lower than the 6MT.

I'm going to need new tires after these mountain roads, but since work is paying $.54 a mile, they'll be buying

Just to add some comments, used the no longer owned Fit for long stretches and have to say it's not the worst or close to the best. What I always hated were 3 things... the constant wind noise at the A pillar/windshield, the constant engine drone at speed, and the worst of all, the intrusive fuel tank in the foot wells. I'm not a tall guy by any stretch, all of 5'7", but I could never find a comfortable place to put my feet with that damned fuel tank taking over real estate where my feet are most comfortable. I did like the seats though, they fit me perfectly.

I bought and installed a dead pedal and place my left foot there. When cruising (cruise control), I keep my right foot near and ready at the break or gas pedal as needed. Haven't found the lack of space with the fuel tank problematic, but have definitely hit the tank when doing some stretches.

Thanks for this post! This is exactly the kind of information I've been looking for. I'm planning to buy a new vehicle next spring, and I was just about to rule out the Fit because I'm worried about comfort & performance on long highway trips. But after reading your post, I will reconsider and keep the Fit on my list of cars to test drive.

We've recently completed a 10 day road trip, (3,000 miles) and a 5 day camping trip (1200 miles) and found it a lot of fun and not tiresome. Looking forward to our next outing.

With the exception of sitting up higher, I find driving the Fit more comfortable to drive than our Odyssey van.

Seat comfort and ergonomics is so subjective to the individual that it's hard to make blanket statements that would apply to everyone.

I don't have any pre-existing back problems.
I find the Fit seats to be......Meh....

That is...not the absolutely most comfortable automotive seats I've ever sat in...nor The Absolute Worst.
My yardstick for acceptability is on longer drives do they cause pain?
NO..not for me.

So I end up giving the fit seats...a solid "C". Satisfactory...

As far as The Fit being a "Road Trip" vehicle...
Well I think a lot of people would default to the idea that as a small compact The Fit would NOT be a good long road trip vehicle.

But I think it does great on the freeway...the gas mileage is very, very good. And given the cargo versatility possible, I don't know of many smaller vehicles that can get you from point A to point B, with as many options. Love that.

I recently took a "small" road trip....a little over 6 hours both ways, and REALLY enjoyed the Refresh Mode configuration at rest stops.

There may be larger, more comfortable vehicles by default, but how many vehicles allow you to fold down your passenger seat and create a stretch your legs out lounge chair? That's a huge plus to me, on a road trip. When I was younger I use to like to drive Banzai...straight through...but unfortunately I can't do that anymore. Which means the ability to stop, pull over and "refresh" is a big part of giving The Fit high marks to me as a road trip vehicle.

Of course I'm talking "Road Trip" as just me..if it was a road trip with a full family? Uh...I might choose a different vehicle.

But if it's a Thelma...or even Thelma and Louise road trip? That is one or two people? I think The Fit is a great choice.

Well put. There's two of us, and we put one back seat down and the other up, and proceed to fill the car with everything but the kitchen sink.

I agree, I forgot to mention that, in on part I asked my wife to drive after we stopped on a gas station, I remembers she started to check if all the windows all the way up, she thought the noise is coming from the windows.

but it wasn't loud to the point that bothers me.
