Is there still break-in oil?

My 2010 owner's manual mentioned not changing the oil early the first time because of special break-in oil.

My 2016 manual doesn't mention it. Just says follow the MM.

Which I would.

Except a dealer gave me two free oil changes, with an expiration date on the offer. I might not even be at 15% for the first one...

I'd go ahead and take advantage of the free oil changes, before they expire. There is certainly no harm in changin' yer oil early......and for free is even better

I plan to buy spare hardware, change it on my own and install a Fumoto valve. The question is- do I have the dealer do it first or do I wait for the MM?

The manual says wait for the MM, so that's what I did, being a neophyte to car ownership.

Does anybody know if Honda still uses break-in oil? Since the prior owners manual mentioned it but the current one does not.

I would call the Honda dealer service center to confirm. If the owner's manual doesn't say you need to change it early, you don't need to then. Honda will give you the best advice.

According to the oil analysis I had done on the factory oil in my '15, there was a lot of molybdenum in the oil, leading me to believe that Honda is still using some form of break in oil.

Talk to your salesman. I bet he will extend the expiration date for you.

No salesman, it's not where I bought the car. A dealer did a bad thing and this was their settlement.
