Driving Underinflated

A couple days ago, my TPMS light went on while driving on the freeway. Stopped by the gas station to check my tires with the cheap gas station psi gauge, and all four ended being at around 22 psi. Filled them at around 34 PSI (supposedly), and am now waiting for a better PSI gauge I ordered online so I can check them cold.

Before that happened, I haven't checked the cars PSI ever since I had received it brand new from the factory in August of 2016. (stupid me, totally slipped my mind.)

Now my question is, do you guys think my tires were damaged in any way? I was thinking maybe the inside of the tires? (driven 6000 miles since I got the car)

I doubt that any harm was done, inside or out. Either they were not properly inflated at purchase or you have a very slow leak. Since they were all uniformly low, I'd bet the former.

7 months without checking tire pressure? Seriously? Rubber is porous, PSI will slowly leach out over time....they ain't set and forget....and why order a gauge online, surely you have autoparts stores near you, or maybe not, dunno...underflation increases tire wear, reduces MPG, and will negatively affect handling, all depending on how underflated they have been. Check your tire pressures regularly....it's easy and it's worth it

Damaged, possible but rather unlikely. Worn at a higher rate than they otherwise would have been, probably. At the rate you're going, it will still be quite awhile before you need new tires.

This sort of situation is why TPMS is now required on all cars. Be thankful you had it, and it did its job, and of course try to keep a bit closer tabs on the tire pressure in the future.

No damage done, no worries.

You can buy a tire air pressure gauge at any auto store, so much faster than online. There are auto store in Cali? Go to youtube to learn how to use it.

If you own a 2016 you should re-calibrate your TPMS system.

fortunately, most tires car manufactures use on these economy cars are junk tires yet have high reliability. im pretty sure ure fine unless u do any kind of crazy driving.

check tire pressure at least monthly. 1psi change for 1F change in ambient temp.
you should be around 32-36 psi range cold for normal setting.

More like 1 psi for 10*F ambient change, yes?

I had something similar happen, i checked my pressure monthly, and realized my front right was 16 psi. I drive about 150km per day so I took it to a mechanic who took it off and did an inspection, no damage to my tires. He replaced my valve stem.
