Hi everybody, new to the forum. Own an '09 base manual, looking to upgrade to the 2018 possibly but the stock armrest in the 3rd gen is set so low as to be pretty much useless, as I'm sure many of you have discovered. I have driven the 3rd gen a few times and it definitely is too low for me, and is a deal-breaker because I've been without an armrest for years now and would like a useable one in my new Fit. I'm not too keen on other aftermarket solutions, but if anybody has had some good luck with one, I'd be open to hearing about what's worked for you.

The 2018 Fit offers an "Armrest Compartment" as an interior accessory. I've attached a screenshot from the Honda website. I am wondering if anybody has had any experience with this and I'm wondering if it sits higher than the stock arm rest?

The armrest is a new option not available on the 2015-2017 Fits. It looks like a welcomed and needed addition. Not sure about how many people will cough up $324 for it. I, as well as others here, made my own armrest. I used a rectangular piece of firm memory foam with a black pillowcase cover using fabric glue to bind it. It fits snugly between the seat bolsters.

The picture shows that it is significantly higher than the stock armrests. Looks a bit short in length though...

And my concern is even if it "Fits" it doesn't appear to have the USB and connection ports?

I'd like to see one in person...and I'd really want to see one in person before coughing up $324 for one.

 

I built my own arm rest: a small cushion layer with a large storage box. The storage box is handy to store items away from prying eyes.

Then my wife raised her seat up higher and my custom-sized arm rest was too short. I suppose the proper solution is to have the arm rest built into the seat, like the 2011-2014 Fits.

As the arm rest is non-adjustable you'd have to install it first and see if it is high enough. for $325 that is a lot of money for a box. There are comparable boxes on eBay for around $100, still expensive to me.

Maybe there's some typo on this product. Is it only the box, or is it the whole middle console? It seems excessively priced. It does not even say it is leather.

 

It's also a whole center console replacement to get that armrest. I looked at the install document and it's pretty lengthy.

Like others I did my own and while not oem looking I didn't spend $300+ on it either but it fits my need.

 

ok, that makes more sense, in a way, but it would be much cheaper to just replace the top box from an eBay product for $80. Or, if you don't want to spend that much money, just buy a cushion or make your own.

 

I'm using a Yoga foam block and strapped it to the console. Works fine for me.

Jeez that's a lot of work. It's too expensive and too labor intensive to install for me. I'll stick with my self-made armrest.

 

That looks like a complete solution, but it is a replacement for a new and expensive ABS part. Why could Honda not design a box that sits atop or replaces the existing box? It would be much cheaper and much less work to install.

That install would take a long time, and would, therefore be very expensive.

LOL the yoga foam block. Comfy and, at $4 a pretty good bargain.

With a part cost of $324 and that much involved in installation, if you can't or wouldn't be doing it yourself, my guess is labor would make it very, very expensive.

Neat and IMO somewhat needed addition BUT....way too involved and expensive.

Since it is basically an entire console exchange...you have to wonder why Honda simply doesn't build them with that console to start with.

 

It looks the same as the one on my jdm 3rd gen fit, so I can answer a few questions.

1. Yes, it sits higher to be a proper arm rest.
2. It's made of leather.
3. There are no USB or connection ports, unlike the standard low armrest.
4. It's so expensive because it isn't just an armrest, but an entire center console.
5. The basic low arm rest has more storage.
6. It swings up and out of the way.
7. The actual armrest cushion slides forward if it is too short.
8. It's not perfect for a manual transmission (for me) as it sorta gets in the way of shifting into second. Not a biggie, but I do swing it up out of the way when I'm on a real curvy road where I do a lot of 3rd to 2nd shifts.

 

Edit: With the the armrest and the attachment kit it appears to be around $225 uninstalled. Anyone going to try installing themselves?
