Yikes, that looks awful. I'll have to check mine during my lunch break.

Have you had any moisture problems?

No moisture problems that I know of. Everything inside the cabin is nice. So it’s very weird.

Theres nothing to worry about there, most vehicles will have rust on the non treated mild steel brackets/surfaces that you dont typically see. Thats not what id even consider rust, just a slight oxidization. Getting in and out of the car with wet feet over the last few years rainy season is all it takes. Hope this relieved your concern some.

I don't have a 3rd pedal with my CVT, but as you can see the steering linkage is not rusty on my 2015.

Ya. I guess I feel better now. And then not so much better when I see one without oxidation.

I live in New England though. Very wet and salty winters.

Thats exactly why. Wet salty feet in the winter, and why California cars wont have this.

Yup. When it's raining or snowing outside your wet feet bring the water inside and then the resulting high humidity around floor level over a long period of time will lead to surface rust in metal parts in the vicinity. Of course if Honda had done a better job of plating/painting those parts they would be better able to resist the light rusting you see. But then of course it's not really that important down there in that out of the way area so hard to argue against the penny pinching.

Now that's a good idea! You might want to use some very fine emery cloth to sand off and then clean off the existing rust before oiling the surfaces.
