Used cruise control on a road trip and my mpg got worse
#21
I didn't go above 60 the whole time on cruise control. I always have my A/C on low so this shouldn't have really affected anything. Just weird how everything I read online said cruise control saves on gas but in my situation it did the opposite. Not a huge drop in mpg but still weird that it hasn't gotten under 37 mpg since I bought it and the one time I use cruise control it drops. It's back up to 37 mpg right now just doing my regular commutes without cruise control.

Everyone I know who cares about fuel economy knows that cruise control makes it worse.
In a shocking twist, websites that don't cater specifically to fuel economy dorks are wrong.
(The shocking twist bit is sarcasm)

I don't really think the point is about cruise control or not.
If there is a questionable element it's city driving vs. highway driving. It's a little strange that on a extended highway drive the MPG did not increase.
Cruise Control or not, if I'm on the freeway with The Fit for more than 15 minutes, my MPG goes up. If it's a long road trip, usually pretty significantly.
But a 1 time event? Where the MPG really stay about the same? I wouldn't worry about.
If it was me?
I'd pick a day off, fill the tank and reset the trip computer, then go on a highway drive, and see what the MPG becomes.
Your gas mileage should increase. EPA estimates for The Fit, have it being 33 city, 40 highway. So yes, there should be an increase. Especially, if the OP was keeping the freeway speeds "modest".
But again? At this point, results from 1 road trip? I wouldn't worry. Especially if the MPG is returning to "combined" driving norm.

I'm not too sure if the fits cruise control use the brakes but on my Beamer The Cruise uses brake so he's it's always constantly breaking when it's little bit over the MCP speed it does not have a coast feature like my old Focus RS did. Since we are using brake if it's going on a downhill and not coasting you're using More fuel.

Fit doesn't seem to slow you down on cruise if you go down a hill, it's more like it doesn't apply gas till it needs to.
CC really ramps up the RPM when going up a hill, more than it really needs to. I never liked that feature and that's why I don't typically use CC any more. I can modulate the gas better for better fuel economy.

2 maintenance cycles for my Fit...two overfilled Oil Changes. Learning the hard way.

Also, don’t discount the effects of headwinds and tailwinds on fuel economy. I find that the Fit is very susceptible to mileage variation on the highway depending on the direction of the wind. To get a really accurate mileage reading it should, therefore, be on an “out and back” trip to minimize the effects of wind resistance or done on a calm day.

To be technical, comparing two out-and-back trips isn't that accurate either, unless the wind speed and direction are pretty close. You lose more mileage fighting a headwind than you pick up with a tailwind. So the windier trip will consume more fuel, all other things being equal.

Just got back from the dealership, everything went fine, oil is at 100%. I requested no car wash (even though my car is already scratched to shit mysteriously). I was surprised that I didn't have to pay anything...I know other dealerships give you a free oil change but I thought Honda didn't do that. In fact I remember specifically asking if the first oil change was free and I was told not unless I bought a maintenance package or something.
