Rattle in hatch

My Fit has started to rattle in the hatch area when going over bumps. It's a slight rattle, and sounds almost as though it's the hatch pieces hitting against each other (the small metal pieces that clip in together when the hatch closes) but I don't see what could be happening! Has anyone else had this experience?

Check your spare tire and surrounding area to make sure nothing is loose.

I have the same rattle in hatch area. I think it's the cheap license plate holder that came from the dealership. It only has two top screws holding it on - might check that out. Waiting on my personalized tag - when I receive it I'll buy a beefier license plate holder that uses 4 screws/bolts.

License plate seems like a likely culprit to me, too. Maybe putting a stick-on felt pad dot underneath it would be enough to keep it from rattling. That's assuming there's nothing inside the car rattling around. Does the new Fit have the little bin in the hatch area above the rear wheel that the previous rendition did?

If the hatch door itself is loose when shut, try adjusting the round rubber bumper stop thingies that it closes against by screwing them out a little.

When this rattle started, it freaked me out. I really thought something was wrong with the rear suspension or linkage. But a closer look revealed that it was the rear seat belts knocking on plastic parts. I do admit I am driving with the rear seats folded most of the time due to work.

Not the license plate, nor the seatbelts. This rattle is driving me crazy!

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution??

Why was this moved to DIY? This is a GK Fit general question.

It's time to call Ghostbusters! There's a ghost hiding in your hatch space!

Have you tried to ride back there while someone else drives over bumps? Maybe you'd be able to better isolate where the sound is coming from? You can thank me later.

Yup! It seems almost as though it's under the back seats?? But there is nothing under there..

I've had my 2016 Fit EX for almost two weeks and I've noticed a rattle most pronounced at a low speeds when going over bumps and uneven surfaces. The noise seems to be coming from the hatch. After forcefully closing one of the rear doors, I think I replicated the sound. It appears the license plate, dealer installed license plate frame and only two screws at the top of the license plate are the culprits. I removed the license plate frame and re-installed the license plate with the two screws provided by the dealer, but I still hear the sound when closing the rear door. I plan to secure the license plate with two screws for the bottom and see if the noise continues during my drive tomorrow.

I installed two screws to the bottom of the license plate this morning and I haven't heard the rattling noise since.
