Cargo area door: shiny "chrome" plastic strip is disgustingly dirty

The chrome strip on the back (Sorry, don't know actualy name - see picture for reference) of my Fit will not get/stay clean. It has this nasty film over almost all of it. I'm not a fan of the chrome anyway, so I was thinking of covering it in Plasti-Dip. I do live on a dirt road, so the back has a way of getting really dirty, but it washes off without issue, except for the chrome strip.
Any thoughts?

I didn't take a picture because the actual filth didn't seem to matter, but I will if need be.

I made the dealer replace the one on our car because it was the same as you described. I went to wash the car the first time in the spring, and it was permanently hazy and dirty. Very odd.

Mine gets dirty, but it always cleans up (so far). The entire back of the car is always dirty. Such is life for vans, SUVs, station wagons and small hatchbacks.
