I have been doing exactly the same for more than twenty years to different cars when doing the seasonal tire changes. I have been using cars' own scissor jacks, srew jacs and hydraulic workshop jacks. You just don't go or put any part of you under the car when it's lifted.

I strongly warn about lifting anywhere else than marked jack points on sides. They are strengthened for that purpose, whereas other areas under the side are not and may easily get dent, which not only is looking bad but also is a typical starting point for corrosion.

wasserball, are you sure that is for the 3rd gen? Pretty sure we have plastic aero panels under the front bumper/front of the front wheels

The plastic underpanel does not cover the jack point on the 3rd gen.

I take it back in regards to a jacking location in the front for GK Fit. I don't see it being available in the user manual. I am going to delete the post/photo to avoid misunderstanding. I have that splash guard off but I cannot verify that a front lift point is available, but sneefy seems to have found its jack location.

I regularly use that front jacking point on my GK. I drive up on ramps to get some clearance, then use my low profile jack to lift up the front end and place the car on jack stands.

For the rear, use the tow hook to lift up the entire rest end and place in jack stands.

I went to Walmart for a tire repair while out on the road. The kid put the jack under the middle of my car, like the OP said. It put small dents on the rail down there. I tried to complain but got the run-around. So far I haven't noticed any other ill effects.
I always use the jack points.

{Quote}So instead of placing the jack on either end of the car next to the wheels, I decided to put it smack down in the middle of those 2 support areas to switch out 2 tires on 1 side real quick.{/Quote}

You run a significant risk of bending the pinch weld in that area . The results is accelerated corrosion of the support seam. It's just not worth it.

This is exactly where I jack mine up in the front. And for the rear I use the tow hook/loop thing. The front is a bit of an issue, since it is so far back that when my jack is pushed under that far, there is no room to stroke the handle. I solved that with 3 pieces of 2X6 lumber, nailed together to form a very short and very crude ramp. I drive the car onto those and that gives me just enough room to jack the front from the center jack point. I can have all 4 wheels off the ground in about 5 min.

I use a little hard rubber puck with a slot down the middle on one side to protect the pinch welds whenever I use a floor jack on the side jacking points. Bought 2 of them on ebay years ago.

You can also just use a hockey puck from Canadian Tire too (or anywhere else that sells hockey equipment).
Probably cheaper as well.
I've use a few of them on all my cars.
Perfect at preventing damage from hydraulic jacks, and cheap enough to dispose when they become worn out.

You mean you people can't just lift up one side of the car with one hand and slide jack stands underneath with your feet? It's a Fit- it doesn't weigh much.

I have a real spare so I include that in my tire rotation- makes it a little easier to rotate tires with fewer times jacking up the car. I've found that when you're buying a new car they're usually happy to throw in a spare rim at cost and mount a mail-order tire for me.
