Evilchargerfan's GK5 - Ballin On A Budget, Minus The Ballin Part (poor mans build!)
08/08/2018:
The car is starting to come along real nicely (imo) as far as aesthetics goes. Car is running mighty smooth with the ktuner, and electronic throttle controller. With just a few more bolt on's, the car should be ready for a custom tune/etune. A few more touches, and then the car will undergo its final external mod ...a color change. The interior is still screaming for leather ... With some GK5 knowledge under my belt, I now have a better understanding for these cars and have some things planned for it. One constant will remain, this build will stay budget friendly, and semi-practical ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Everyone! My name is Dennis and I'm from San Diego. I recently picked up an 2015 Fit LX (6 spd) with 23k on the odometer For the most part, this will be a simple and reliable DD. The inner Ricer in me runs strong, so mods will come slowly but surely. I'll do my best to update this thread as often as I can How she sits as of 04-24-2018: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...affa76dd4d.jpg Just lowered 1.5 inch thanks to D2 Racing, lowering springs |

Installing the springs was a breeze. the rears took roughly 15 mins from unbolting the stock springs, to installing the d2's and bolting everything back in
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5ab79cc9ff.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...46313ee806.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...eb799cd0c1.jpg 1 simple bolt on each side and the springs almost drop out on their own. with a help of a pry bar, took less than a minute each side to pull out the rear springs https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...2efb50ed29.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...3fc0821b5b.jpg reverse the order when installing the new spring. note ... the d2 spring itself is smaller, so no need for any pry bars or any sort, just slap her right in! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...76c600e59d.jpg TIME! (we were shooting for 15 mins, ah well, missed it by 1 min) |
Welcome, Dennis. Looking good so far! :wavey:
|
The fronts were rather simple too. Only 1 bolt on the top, I'm used to seeing 3 up there. No complaints here, less bolts means less work!
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...616796e6db.jpg for those who do not have a spring compressor ... we were able to pull off the disassemble of the passenger just fine w/o the need for spring compressors. sketchy .... but .... it came out just fine! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...d5a7a33026.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...4301bde67c.jpg in a few weeks, will come back in this area to install camber bolts and a front sway bar. as a huge bonus, camber bolts from my old wrx just so happen to fit on this car ... yay! |

I do, so don't feel bad! :rotfl: |
Your ride looks nice. And thanks for the pics on the installation. About those Philips bulbs. I hope that you plan on getting a few more sets, bc the ones that I had would eventually burn out.

Nice and clean, looking forward to more updates

Happy Monday everyone!
And thank you all for the kind words so far, even though my car is "meh" you guys find a way to make it seem special/less meh. Today's post will be sharing my fun weekend playing with bulbs! oem bulbs, about 1136 lux https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...f59a6f259f.jpghttps://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...e023dd435b.jpg (disclaimer, lux meter held down with my own human hands. there is def room for error) |
I'll be comparing Philips X-tremeVsion (+130%) and Philips RacingVision (+150%)
(I'm in no way paid to do this.... I simply have no life and like to test stuff out and compare things with no reason. But .... if someone out there wants to pay me to review stuff, I'm game.... hmu) https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...fcb245f305.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...2f0274377e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...ad3a5792d2.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...0d0a4b0025.jpg 1453 lux for the x-treme visions (+130%) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5630efce4f.jpg 1665 lux for the racing visions (+150%) https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5343110132.jpg |
and here are some shots of the bulbs installed. pics are shot from the front of the car, above the roof line, and then from inside the cabin
x-treme vision (+130%) https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...eb6ee768bd.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...a62373e967.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...d3cc672907.jpg racing vision (+150%) https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...bd8220f51a.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...3a899e39a0.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...4e066f642e.jpg conclusion .... I honestly cant tell teh diff. other than, the racing visions do slightly look a little more white/blue (closer to 4000k as far as looks go) as far as light output, the lux meter does suggest the racing visions output more light. but my human eyes, cant tell the diff. it was a darn fun experiment tho! I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did |
Thanks for the light bulb comparo!

Very nice ride height. Awesome first mod that makes a big difference :)

Thanks LegenD. I'm gonna give koni orange's a try soon, wondering what the fuss is all about. I'm one of those people who likes to buy and try stuff. With some lucky, maybe it will lower the car just a TAD bit more.... lol.
Recent mod, Sumole Ram Air Duct Scoop Thingee: Attachment 85730 Attachment 85731 Butt Dyno says, there is a little more power gained, even if its just a small amount. MPG appears to be worse.... but.... I'll follow up with that with Fuelly data after a few more tanks of gas |
While shopping for Cargo Cover's, I noticed .... for one reason or another the 2018s have a diff PN and, are cheaper:
Cargo Cover - $194.28 84400-T5R-C01ZA Vehicle Fitment = 2015, 2016, 2017 Honda FIT 5-DOOR https://www.hondapartsguys.com/oem-p...-84400t5rc01za Cargo Area Cover - $105.00 08U35-T5A-100 Vehicle Fitment = 2018 Honda FIT 5-DOOR https://www.hondapartsguys.com/oem-p...er-08u35t5a100 Needless to say, I called BS and ordered the 2018 one anyways. It seems like a popular mod for sure. They're better quality over the stock setup so you can't go wrong. Unless I'm not up to date, I don't think there are any GK specific, so people just use the ones from the older gen. Fits?

SO, this weekend was rather productive ... ish.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...4a87e3b0ea.jpg I went with a Rockford Fosgate R250X4 Prime 4-Channel Amplifier, the wattage goes perfect with my poor man speakers, and .... scored the amp for a good price via amazon warehouse deals. Found a rad place to mount the amp as well https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...96a5026a6b.jpg NOTE, we did have a trim a little bit to make it fit https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...1a4c2394c8.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...ac8e4da28e.jpg How it will look once its all said and done https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...0f85cfb286.jpg I wont bother posting pictures, but ... the sub install was a huge fail. It was a combination of the sub being taller than I expected .... and the area under the seats being insanely cramped to the point where .... NOTHING can go underneath. For those wondering, the amp was a Rockford Fosgate PS-8 (8" 150W RMS Underseat Powered Car Stereo Audio Subwoofer). Will be going back to amazon and will need to come up with a plan b soon ish. |
And "while we were in there" ... went ahead and installed some footwell lighting. For those who need the PN and instructions:
Interior Illumination - Honda (08E10-T5A-100) http://www.collegehillshonda.com/ins...ntlighting.pdf https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...743bad1658.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...c5677334d8.jpg Bad photos, I know. here is a stock image to better show what it looks like with actual good photography https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...1abe2ef0b1.jpg |
Due to the gap in pricing, I settled for the ebay "mugen style" visors. Fitment is ... MEH. I did buy the oem hardware for the honda visors, in an effort to actually CLIP down the ebay visors, but they dont have the proper mounting holes.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...6ab39e6990.jpg |
Looks good man. Thanks for the headlight bulb review I was actually looking at those to buy.

^^^ :thumbups:
Always a pleasure testing out products. I find comparing stuff to be .... exhilarating SO .... for kicks and giggles, I pull my engine air filter and cabin air filters out ... HOLY MOLY .... filthy! The car is a 2015 with 24k on the odometer. Prev owner probably NEVER replaced the filters: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...06f3f0b7a0.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...808a7d65ad.jpg K&N is my go to because I can wash and re use the filters. I found a way to 1-up my poor mans game and went with Amazon Warehouse Deals on my filters ... being the cheap skate that I am, I dont mind buying a "used" filter ... and to my amazement the item showed up NEW! SCORE! LEFT = new RIGHT = supposedly "used" https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...d1cba5e42b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...b7af80b8f6.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...bd736cd95e.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...1bc4c639e2.jpg NOTED, my brother ordered one as well same time, he essentially paid almost $10 more, for the same thing https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...a7ae865d88.png https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...ebc6df0b8b.png |
For those who care, I did the same for my K&N Engine Air Filter as well .... HUGE savings over new:

Installed the "GK5 FIT ACUITY SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING UPGRADE" over the weekend. Followed the instructions and it was pretty straight forward. I was honestly expecting even more of a "tight" feel .... but.... its def better than nothing. next mod, I may try that buddy club short shifter sold on axion's website
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...a9c390a25e.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...93f5997095.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5880c3b36e.jpg |
Dam now you have me contemplating getting the m&m honda. It’ll problly feel better once that buddy club short shifter is installed
|
m&m? I'm embarrassed to say this but.... I dont get it? lol
so in todays episode .... FUN WITH LED PANELS! I shoved some 20 leds into the map lights, and they barely fit https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...dfeff1864b.jpg For the trunk, 12 LED panel was the most that would fit back there https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...b6b3abd465.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...8855c8cd24.jpg Not pictured ... but I did try to shove a 48 led panel in the dome light ... huge fail. one 20 led panel only took up 1/2 the space of the dome light, so I decided .... I'll combine 2 and make it a 40 led panel https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...ba8ae22c0f.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...6468a6e541.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...43b5539007.jpg BRIGHT AF tho .... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...0f550b219b.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...1937baea54.jpg |

I am most def regretting the acuity bushings. If I could do it all over again, I woulda went straight to the buddy club short shifter
Other than axion, any other recommends on where to pick 1 up for a decent price? |

Other than axion, any other recommends on where to pick 1 up for a decent price? I picked mine up from someone selling it here, which I believe you replied to that thread before it was removed. I was thinking of doing the Acuity bushings soon. Are you saying you regret the bushings in general, or regret getting them before the short shifter? I love the feel of the short shifter combined with a weighted knob (Blox). I am curious how much of an improvement, if any, the bushings would make in addition to that. |
Kevin may be the better person to answer that LeFreaky, I believe he has it all. I am in full agreement with the weighted knob, it made the acuity bushings feel, better.
From my personal experience, the acuity bushings make a TINY diff. I am pretty sure, its one of those things where, its best to just buy it ALL for that "complete package" and best feel. But, if budget is an issue, and I had to choose ONE .... I have a feeling .... I'd be most happy with just the short shifter itself For the time being, I do not have the short shifter. I'll eventually jump on board and cave in, and buy.... one day. |
Played around with the shark fin antenna. I must say, the Beat-Sonic FDA4S is a damn close match to alabaster silver metallic. Radio station reception ... appears to be just as good as stock.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...1491fd2614.jpg Beat-Sonic FDA4S Silver Universal Functional Shark Fin Antenna (for those who need a link to buy, that's where I bought mine from) |
Illuminated Door Sills, I know its something that is only seen when the door opens up for a hot 3-4 seconds.... but this is a must have for me. I cheaped out and went with the ebay special.
To my surprise, the install was easier than expected! I thought I would have to tap into the dome light to make it all work, but the kit actually comes with a harness. Plug & Play ... FTW! https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5ce511cc91.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...ad0c8233ef.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...43ef8d537a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...0fd5b1206f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...96d634b184.jpg |

Are you saying you regret the bushings in general, or regret getting them before the short shifter? I love the feel of the short shifter combined with a weighted knob (Blox). I am curious how much of an improvement, if any, the bushings would make in addition to that. I currently have the Acuity Instruments shifter cable bushings along with the Hasport rear motor mount (U70A), and a Spoon Sports aluminum shift knob. In my opinion, the shifter cable bushings work as a nice supplementary modification to the upgraded motor mount. The biggest improvement(s), for me, were noticed with the upgraded motor mount, but that's not a surprise. The shifter cable bushings make shifts feel more notchy and direct and the heavier shift knob makes it easier to engage the gears. When you combine the two, you have a really nice combo. |
Past few days have been insanely productive. With some down time waiting on my buddy to work on other parts of the car, I poured some Liquid Urethane into the oem Torque Rod. This is a good alternative for those of us who do not want to shell out the money for a Hasport or BeatRush rear motor mount

Nice man, lots of great progress since I last checked. Sorry to hear about the sub, that’s a bummer.
Regarding the eBay ‘Mugen style’ visors - just get the legit ones if the fitment still bothers you. I get everything through RHDJapan to avoid the hassle and headache. M&M Honda is a tuning shop in Japan that focuses on Honda parts/builds, very much like Spoon Sports for example. LEDs look great! Just did a full LED conversion (interior and exterior) on my Fit a few days ago too - looks so much nicer. Appreciate the door sill write-up - looks very nice, and was wondering about these :). Anyway, nice updates man, looking forward to more :popc: |
