My 2015 Fit EX has about 27,000 and the OEM Firestone 185x55x16 are pretty worn.
what is a good replacement that would be a quiet tire?

 

 

I splurged on Michelin Premiers and they do everything better: noise, ride, handling.

 

Mine came with continental pro contacts. They were nice while they lasted. I couldnt see the point as the front wore down after 25k miles. The rears are intact, but going for replacement soon.

Whatever you buy, make sure to rotate them every 5,000 miles or so. If you don't they will get noisy.

These Michelins are a huge improvement!!!
Will be pleased if these last 25k.

 

I have Yokohamas - (spelling? lol - discount tire direct, 334.00 for four of them.. Very quiet, nice ride. Locally wanted 130ea for them. They sent me 6 instead of 4 so I have spares. If interested ill get the exact model.

 

At 100,000 miles I just installed my 3rd set. Last were the Falken Pro G4 A/S. Good tire. Got the advertised 60+k miles on them. Still had decent tread, but started hydroplaning.

 

 

I just bought a set of Continental extreme contact DWS 205-50-16 for my Fit and wish I had bought a set when it was new. In the rain (Florida here) no better tire period! I run mine at 40 lbs and in every way fantastic..

 

VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 5 (185/55R16 OEM size) have been wonderful on the road dry/wet/ and especially in the snow we have had in PA recently. Gets great reviews all around and ride very nice.

The olnly drawback is that they are hard to find and need to get them when they come back in stock via tire rack.. nothing local

 

I had gone to 205/50R16 Bridgestone Ecos on our 2009 Sport and found that it made the handling squeamish. During what had been planned as the last road trip, one suffered a sidewall puncture and I replaced the whole set. I had already decided to return to stock 185/55R16. The tire dealer in Alabama (two states away from home) had only Yokohama Avid Ascends in stock. I had to get back on the road, so I went ahead with those even though I knew nothing about them.

Am I glad I did! I actually might get the new generation Avid Ascend GTs over Michelins on our 2018 EX and the 2009 Sport when the time comes. I've been happy enough with the 2018's OEM Firestone FR740s, that's been a better experience than I had with the OEM Dunlaps in 2009 when the Sport was new. On that car, both the Ecopias and the Yokohama Avid Ascends yielded improved mileage of about 5%, most consistently on the highway.

The 09 Sport has about 30,000 miles on its Avid Ascends, and I think I"m good for another 1-2 rotation rounds, which would be about 45-50K miles total on that set. Given the horrible street quality around its home base in New Orleans, that's a decent tire life expectancy. I'm also considering the Michelin Premier A/S, because, well, you know. Michelin. (I had Michelin Ones on the 2001 Civic, and those were great tires except for the time one blew out at 75 mph on I-75 in Ocala. I have ended up with Bridgestone on the Civic primarily because the Costco Bridgestone promotion always seems to coincide with tire time for that car).

 

wistlo, the ascend GTs get great ratings, but I find it amusing the key marketing point is "powerful braking in wet and snowy conditions!" which I imagine is a rare day indeed in New Orleans

I have Michelin Premier A/S and, yep, that's both because they are considered good tires and one of the few options at Costco (the only place for affordable tires+install around here).

They make the car feel a little more mature, a little more German-ish in terms of highway stability (as much as possible in a car with loose dampers like these). Not quite as light (handling) nor as quiet (road noise) as I would like. All season performance much better than stock (GE Fit), starting to approach snow tire levels. I would guess if you are super happy with the Ascends the Michelins might not add too much for you.

 

We replaced the Firestones with Yokohama Avid Acend GT's before we took delivery of our new 19 EX-L Navi. They are very smooth and quiet. The Firestones are a very low- rated tire, typical OE crap. Considered the Michelin Premier, but a lot of owners have reported that they wear very fast, plus, Michelin's are primarily a rubber compound and tend to dry rot & crack after 3 years or so. As we don't put a lot of miles on my wife's Fit, we felt the Yokos were a better choice as she plans to keep it at least 8 years. Each to their own, I researched this pretty extensively.

 

Just some further notes on the above post, I did use the Tire Rack decision tree, it picked the Yokos, the Vredestien and the Michelins, reading all the reviews, I eliminated the Michelins because of the number of reviews dissatisfied with tread life, was between the Vredestiens and the Yokos, my dealer stepped up and offered to replace the Firestones as an even swap for the Yokos, did give me the choice of the Michelins as well, however, after conversations with my mechanic there indicating the tendency of the Michelins to dry rot and crack after several years we went with the Yokos. My wife's Fit is not garaged (we have a townhouse) and she only drives 2-300 miles a month at best. The Firestones on her 16 Fit, which we traded at 7500mi were already showing some cracking in the treads after 3 years, so I didn't even want to deal with another set. My very accommodating dealer stepped up and solved the problem, after dealing with them for 35 years and at least 10 car purchases, they really go above and beyond for us.

 

Vredestein or Yokos? Just got 40k mi off of a set of Yokos. Good enough. But am curious about Vredestein, a brand that I do not know at all.

You advice, gentlemen?
