Valve Adjustment Tools List
Valve Adjustment Tools List
I've watched a couple of YouTube videos and read a few posts regarding valve adjustment for the GD's.
I bought my Fit with 89K on the clock and it now has 146K. I've never adjusted the valves and I'm doubting the previous owned did either (no service records). I recently moved cross country and couldn't bring my entire tool kit with me. So, I'm wanting to know what I'll need before I begin so I don't find myself halfway in and missing a tool. Please chime in with what else is needed. Finally, about how long would this usually take for someone who knows their way around a vehicle? There's a DIY garage here in LA (https://urdreamgarage.com) that may prove to be a good choice for this and/or future jobs since rates are $30/hour.
Chime in with what I'm missing, thanks!

- Metric socket set / open ended wrenches
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Torque wrench
- Angled feeler gauges
- Way to spin flywheel - anyone know bolt size?
- socket wrench extension(s)
- Sensor safe RTV
- New valve cover gasket (maybe?)
- Throttle body cleaner

- Metric socket set / open ended wrenches 10, 12, 14, 19 sockets, 10/? and 12/14 offset box end wrenches
- Flat blade screwdriver 3/16 to 1/4 inch wide and without sharp edge
- Torque wrench not really needed
- Angled feeler gauges (6, 7,10,11 mils)
- Way to spin flywheel - anyone know bolt size? Crank shaft bolt , 19 mm size. For best result, turn front wheels to the right. I was able to rotate crank without taking the spark plugs out (tiny engine) with ordinary 10 inches long ratchet
- socket wrench extension(s) 12" is the best to rotate crankshaft pulley bolt head (19mm)
- Sensor safe RTV (I used left overs of Toyota form in place gasket; only need to be applied at timing chain cover to head joints)
- New valve cover gasket (maybe?) + intake plenum gasket, possible throttle body gasket (sold as fuel injection (not injector!) gasket
- Throttle body cleaner
- Nut driver (4.5mm) to loosen the air intake to throttle body clamp screw
- Slip joint pliers and nail puller to deal with PCV ventilation pipe to air intake housing connector
