Air vents blow very weak after about an hour of being on
Hey everyone!
I have a bizarre issue. When I first crank up my 2011 Honda Fit (base model), the Vent / AC / Heat works great. However, anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, the fan speed will reduce down to about the strength of the 1 setting.
The fan sounds the same, but suddenly the air flow will drop significantly. I have checked the fan behind the glove box while this is occurring, and it spins the same. Slowly on 1 and very fast on 4.
Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone had this happen to their Fit?
Please let me know if I can clarify anything. I am totally stumped!
Thanks in advance,
NEB

Sounds like blower motor resistor is going bad. Pretty common issue with this generation of Fit. Search this forum or Goggle for details. Once you lower the glovebox similar to changing a cabin filter it’s mounted on the firewall to the left of the glovebox opening.
Thanks for the info!
I assumed the motor was ok since the fan speeds up and slows down with the dial...just like it does when the problem isn't happening.
Do you still think that is the problem, knowing that? The fan 'sounds' like it is on high, but very little air comes out of the vents.

Blower problem
Sounds like your have a blower motor problem. The blower can make a lot of noise without working properly.. Mine was roaring and obviously broken. The resister works with the blower to control the speed of the blower. If the blower swap does not work, try the resistor. I changed my blower and have used the original resistor for some time. Clay

If the blower works fine in the beginning, it's very unlikely your issue is the blower motor.
In fact, I had the same symptoms you described.
It's the freezing of the evaporator under your dash, that prevents the air from moving through it as it should. The evaporator becomes a solid piece of ice.
If you let it thaw, I bet your fan will start supplying enough air immediately.
Now as to the reason it freezes. LOW REFRIGERANT!
That's one classic consequent of the low refrigerant level. You need to recharge the system. I did it by buying a set of ac gauges on Amazon (about $40) and one can of refrigrant at Walmart = $7. Working great the second summer in a row. Refrigerant can leak a bit, especially over the years. It's normal to have to recharge every 5 yrs.
Good luck.

Interesting!
I feel like this happened over the winter while running the heat. I'm 99% sure.
Hearing that you had the same symptoms makes me question my memory....
Could there be some other blockage? Maybe a flap or something inside that falls down? (I have no idea what I'm talking about and can't find a diagram of the cabin airflow anywhere.)

Noise
These cars have a history of failing blower motors. A blockage is also possible but how that can happen in winter? Make sure in interior air filter is clear of leaves and junk that's clogging it. Best of luck, Clay
