2009 Fit - Minor accident - seat belt locked

hi all -- my kid was in a small collision, air bags did not deploy but the seat belt tensioner must have gone off as the seat belt will not retract now. I did some YT research to try to remove the parts that deployed
so at least it would retract until I got a new one but that didn't go so well. So anyhow, if any of you were in an accident where did you get a new tensioner module for your car? Thanks in advance - Aaron

You have to replace the whole seat belt. I'd probably get a used one from ebay before I bought a new one.

Thanks for the reply and for the link but I have to believe there is a better way than just having to buy a whole new seat belt when all I really need is a tensioner.

Not to be mean but, you might not be qualified to work on this stuff if you don't understand how it all works. Seat belts tensioners are "one time blow then replace" just like airbags.

The tensioner is built into the spool for the seat belt. Pull off the plastic trim and you'll see the yellow wiring going to the seat belt spool.

Look at page 24-13 in the manual. It shows the side impact sensor and notes the tensioner is inside the seat belt spool.
DRIVER S SEAT BELT TENSIONER
Replacement, page 24-4
Disposal, page 24-182
There's a procedure in the manual to test whether the retractors are working properly.

Thanks for the info and by no means do I think you are being mean. I don't want to disassemble or rebuild the tensioner, I just want to buy a new/refurb'd one to replace the one that has already fired and now is no longer functional. I will take a look at what you sent. thanks!

I've never seen a case where the seat belt tensioner popped but the airbag didn't. It makes you wonder if the driver's airbag is actually functional in the first place. Like whether there's anything under the air bag cover.

Many cars, once the system fires, the SRS (air-bag) controller box, under the center stack bolted to the transmission tunnel will need to be reset or replaced. If you replace the tensioner and the SRS light stays on, that's where I'd look.

That's pretty slick. I'd want to research it before I jumped in but it looks good.

I was thinking more like a used one.
