Struggling to find a mechanic.

Hi, Fit newb here. I have a 2013 Honda Fit Hybrid (Japanese import) about 8 months. Love the little bugger. Problem is some little **** tried to steal it on Sunday. He smashed the rear passenger window and quarter glass (why both I've no idea) and then proceeded to butcher the (keyless) ignition. Car has immobiliser fitted so he was going nowhere. Because of the damage to the ignition I am unable to reset the immobiliser so I've a very open and vulnerable paperweight out front. Now though I'm struggling to find a mechanic who will fix it. I'm a DIY guy usually and will give everything a go but car knowledge is my Kryptonite. So I'm looking for a mechanic in South Dublin who will be able to help me out.

Cheers all.

Photos to show what he left.

Not hard at all. Just contact your local Honda dealer....

Can you physically turn the ignition to switch it on or is the whole mechanism damaged? Suggest you check to see if any of the wiring or electrical connections were damaged might be an easy fix apart from replacing the barrel if thats buggered and exterior parts.

Btw I also have a 2013 hybrid ex japan - were you able to change the language from japanese to english? Havent been able to figure that out.

First off I don't believe it's possible to change the language on a Japanese import. As far as I could see the language selection screen is missing from mine anyway.

AS for the rest, he damaged the actual key slot so badly I can't even get the key in. Also broke lots of other little parts attached to the cylinder. The whole ignition cylinder will have to be replaced and the keys that come with the new one recoded. Found a video online that shows the process. Luckily though all the wired connectors that click into the ignition cylinder are intact. Absolute muppet though. I've sourced a 2012 Fit Hybrid import at a breakers, just waiting for them to get back to me as to whether the cylinder is completely intact and has keys. Not sure that will work but after ringing around many places over the last few days my only other alternative seems to be to try and order a new cylinder from Japan. That's gonna cost a packet though

I assume you're in the United Kingdom?

Do you have car insurance that will cover the damage? If so, A Honda dealer or a locksmith can repair the ignition with factory parts. A glass shop can repair the glass.

If no insurance coverage, I would still first price the repairs from the above listed sources and then get a price from an auto parts dismantler, and look for a donor car with ignition keys, complete column and a replacement door lock and hatch lock if you have one. You should be able to get the whole matched set from one car and any reputible mechanic should be able to install those parts for you. Good luck.....

Ireland.

Finally got some proper feedback from a Honda Dealer and this particular ignition cylinder is discontinued. As I said in another reply a locksmith can do nothing for me as the thief broke off a few ancillary electronic parts from the cylinder so changing the barrel will do nothing. I need a full cylinder with all its sundry electric bits. I've another mechanic to get back to me in regards as to whether a generic contemporary Honda Fit ignition cylinder will be interchangable.

On a Japanese import there is no menu to change the language.

I cannot physical turn the switch, or even get the key in fully. He didn't only wreck the barrel but broke off all the ancillary electronic bits too. I will need a whole new cylinder. Complete pain.
