I recently just finished the 2 big mods to my "offroad" fit, lifted it 1.2 inches in the front and back, and put on some 205/70/15 Yokohama Geolandar AT tires. All together, the car was lifted about ~2.5 inches. The impact to driveability is mostly negligible as far as I can tell, car handles pretty similar to how it did before with slightly worse acceleration, braking, and body roll - all the things you would expect from putting bigger tires on it. However, the ride is smoother, the revs stay a bit lower, and its more capable off-road. It did rub on the fender liner a little bit but that was easily fixed with a box cutter, however, at full lock, it rubs on the body a bit, this can be resolved with 3 things mainly, wheel spacers, steering rack limiters, or taking a mallet to the area where it rubs... the choice is yours. I've just adjusted my driving style a little bit to not go full lock anymore and I'm gonna try the mallet this weekend. Overall, I'm happy with the changes and I think it came out great, the rubbing is a bit of a bummer but it's not that bad and can be fixed.
A lift is one of the things I always wanted to do to my fit. I got some better-looking tires on her but those scrapes are just unavoidable, unfortunately. It's the one thing I seriously hate about the fits.
That's cool, exactly what I had in mind for the rally before it was changed to mostly asphalt so I droppe it.
How did you do the lift exactly? I got some spring spacers that I never installed but I wonder what kind of effect that would have on handling.
I used 30mm Tema4x4 spacers front and back to lift it. It handles fine, a little sloppier then before but not a big difference, some of that has to do with the tires too.
