Engine Replacement, Which Years Can Fit in a 2013? Spark Plug/Coil Blew -

Hey guys,

I'm not very mechanically inclined but hopefully this makes sense. My 2013 Fit (with 250,000kms on it) needed the 3rd coil replaced (Maybe it's called a cylinder not a coil?) and we did that. It had been throwing random engine lights and "Misfire in catalytic converter" codes prior to this happening. Then a month later, the car suddenly wouldn't go over 30kmph and we brought it to the mechanic. They said the spark plug exploded and took out the coil. The way they managed to replace the parts, they said the head would need to be replaced if this fix didn't work and at that point it would probably be cheaper to get an entirely new engine. I believe the Head was damaged when the spark plug exploded.

I love my Fit - We've taken good care of it and with the used car market being so crazy right now, we are just going to try our best to save up money to get a new engine in case this fix doesn't work. We are getting a bit of a gas smell since the repair and I'm worried this means the helicoil that was installed isn't holding well and we may be needing to replace the engine sooner than later.

My question is - What year engine can I put in my Fit? 2009 - 2013, I assume, but can I use older engines?

Also, curious how common is this problem in the Fits? I've read a few threads on here and elsewhere about this exact thing happening. I'm a little scared to spend a lot of money on an engine and then this happens again.

Thanks for your help!
Tara

Specifically - I can only seem to find 2008 engines - can I put a 2008 engine in a 2013 Fit?

Thank you!

The easiest way to answer your question is to call your local auto parts wrecking yard and ask them to use their interchange guide to determine the years that interchange. They can also give you mileages and prices of engines they have access to.

Very common. https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ad-inside.html

After attempting to helicoil the original, most people seem to replace the head.

I do not believe 1st gen or 3rd gen engines/ transmissions will work in a 2nd gen car.
