Driver side door lock actuator

Hi! 2012 Fit owner new to the site.

This past winter I noticed my driver side door handle seemed “light” or “loose”. A short time later it started to make a “thunk” sound when the locks automatically engaged (5mph?). I took it to my local mechanic who gave me a piece of the door handle assembly like a counter weight and said ‘all fixed. The part is not necessary’.

after that I started to hear a buzzing sound when the lock engaged. Happens whether I use the key fob, the button, or the manual plastic thing on the door handle.

I took it back to the mechanic. He says it’s the actuator, and $600 to replace. OEM cheaper than after market. Also says it’s not a safety thing, more convenience than anything. When the actuator dies I’ll need to manually (un-)lock the driver side door but nothing else.

any other solution than replacing an actuator? Seems the actuator is working just buzzing/grinding.

thanks!

Look on Rock Auto. It is not 600 $ to replace!
