Playing music from Apple Laptop

I've owned Honda Fits for twelve years. In that time, I have never been able to play music off my Apple laptop (MacBook Air) through the speaker system on my Honda Fit.

Is there a way to do this?

When I try to pair with Bluetooth, possibly the worst technology ever invented, it allows me to use the controls on the Fit to play/pause/skip songs on my Apple laptop....on the puny, pathetic speaker system of my Apple Laptop. I find this infuriating. Who would ever want to play music on 75db speakers inside a car with road noise of 75db?

When I connect the Apple laptop using a USB C to USB A cable, the Fit says "unsupported".

For twelve years, the best I've been able to do is to transfer songs onto a USB A flashdrive and plug it into the USB A drive on the Fit. Even then, a few of the songs are "unsupported."

In the year 2026, is it really impossible to play music from my laptop on the speakers of a Honda Fit? (And, aside from this forum, who would I even ask to try to fix this?)

Thanks!

When I first got my 2016 LX, it did something that drove me crazy - and eventually led to me getting an aftermarket head unit.

I had an ipod classic attached via USB-A to play music. Frequently, the entire head unit would freeze. Only way to get any head unit function back was to turn off the engine, as all switches on the head unit became disabled.

Needless to say, this became practically impossible - on long trips, for ex. I protested to Honda. They told me, don't use old ipods, your problem, not ours.

That's when I realized connectivity with the Honda head unit was going to be a problem. I replaced my head unit with a Sony. Never looked back.

My GK5 was totaled last week and that head unit is now with the vehicle. I got 9 decent years out of it.

Hate to say it, but if you want decent sounds and more connectivity, have to go aftermarket.

On your laptop, look in System Preferences > Sound > Output and see if bluetooth is an available output.

Yeah, I've always kind of assumed "get a phone" or "get a newer phone" would be their answer.

Planned obsolescence wins again!

Maybe I just have to get a good quality wired speaker for my laptop.
