1996 Civic LX dash lights blinking and speedometer jumping. help!

I was driving the car and all of a sudden I noticed the speedometer
needle jumping up and down. This happens even if the car is in PARK and
I step on the gas. All the dashboard lights blink on and off also. Then
today the car just stopped running. At first I thought it ran out of
gas, but it turns out the battery is dead. I couldn't even jump start
it. I'm going to get another battery tomorrow.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I read another post in
this group where the guy says the alarm/immobilizer needs to be reset.

Thanks !

any accidents? minor fenderbenders? a wiring harness could be loose and
chafing against metal in the area of the intake manifold.
